    Blue Islands Jet Hit by Lightning; Diverted to London Southend Airport

    Blue IslandsBlue Islands flight SI718 had to divert and make an emergency landing at London Southend Airport in Essex, United Kingdom, at around 6:37 p.m. on January 13.

    The flight, heading from Jersey to London City, was diverted after it was struck by lightning.

    The ATR42 aircraft, carrying 30 passengers, landed uneventfully. None of the passengers and crew members was hurt.

    Airline authorities said the aircraft was taken for inspection while the return flight to Jersey was cancelled.

    Ural Airlines Flight Diverts to Volgograd due to Medical Emergency

    Ural Airlines U6-893 made an emergency landing in Volgograd, Russia, on January 19th.

    The plane heading from Moscow, Russia, to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, was diverted after some passengers reported feeling sick.

    The plane landed safely. At least two people were taken to a hospital while several others received treatment at the airport.

    American Airlines Plane Suffers Bird Strike Near Orlando International Airport

    American Airlines flight AA-1905 suffered a bird strike near Orlando International Airport, Florida, on October 12th.

    The Airbus A321-200 plane flying from Charlotte, North Carolina, was on final approach to Orlando International Airport when a bird hit it.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    American Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Nellis Air Force Base

    American Airlines flight AA-671 made an emergency landing at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, on February 16th.

    The plane heading from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Texas, to McCarran International Airport, Nevada, was diverted as it needed refueling due to weather-related delays at the destination airport.

    The plane landed safely and departed for McCarran International Airport shortly afterwards.

    Who: 118 aboard
    Why: About eleven minutes after takeoff, the plane appeared about to develop cabin pressurization problems, according to indicators.

    The flight diverted to Rochester where it made a safe landing. Passengers were provided a replacement Airbus.

    Small Plane Crash-Lands in British Columbia; Pilot Injured

    A small, single-engine plane crash-landed at highway 97 in British Columbia, Canada on July 7.

    The plane had just taken off from Oliver in British Columbia, when it lost power and hit a semi-truck while trying to land on the highway. It burst into flames afterwards.

    The pilot sustained second and third degree burns and was rushed to hospital. He was identified as Todd Lewendon, 46, of Surrey, England.

    The Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause.
