What: Egypt Air Airbus A330-200 en route from Cairo to Hurghada

Who: 195 passengers
Why: Prior to take-off, there was crew error on the ground, and the plane impacted two runway light poles. The wings were damaged; the streetlights collapsed. Passengers were transferred to another plane.
The damaged plane was judged to be a total loss.

What: Delta Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-88 en route from Guadalajara Mexico to Atlanta, GA
Where: Guadalajara
When: Mar 24th 2009
Who: 120 passengers and 5 crew,
Why: When the crew discovered an “unsafe gear indication” they burned off fuel, (Airport spokesman Miguel Aliaga said the pilot dumped fuel) and requested emergency services to stand by as they undertook an emergency landing on runway 28.

What: Emirates Airlines Airbus A340-500 en route from Cape Town to Dubai
Where: Capetown
When: Jan 4 2012 1.55pm
Who: 243 passengers
Why: After takeoff, the gear did not retract and (as was observed) the gear doors remained open. We presume the pilots did a fly-by that was the source of the visual conformation of the issue at hand.
An hour and a half after takeoff, with emergency crews on standby, the pilots landed back in Capetown (3.20pm), and was towed.
Passengers were provided hotel accommodations. The replacement flight was scheduled for Jan 5, 2012.

What: Ryanair Boeing 737-800, registration EI-DLJ performing flight FR-9052 from Alicante Spain to Brussels Belgium

Why: On approach to landing in Charleroi, the plane developed engine vibrations.
The flight made a safe landing. No report has been released regarding the cause of the engine vibration.
Lufthansa flight LH-582 made an emergency landing in Izmir, Turkey, on June 1st.
The Airbus A321-200 plane heading from Frankfurt, Germany, to Cairo, Egypt, was diverted after an electrical odor was noticed in the aft lavatory and cabin.
The plane landed safely. All one hundred and sixty-three people aboard remained unharmed.

What: Asiana Boeing 747-400 Cargo plane en route from South Korea’s Incheon International Airport and to Pudong China
Where: southern resort island of Jeju, South Korea

Why: At 7600 feet, the crew reported control problems, and the aircraft’s transponder transmitted the emergency code. Sixty-seven minutes after takeoff, the crew reported fire in the cargo hold and lost contact with ATC. They were planning to divert to Jeju, but instead the plane crashed off of Jeju island. There were strong winds at the time of the plane’s disappearance. The captain was 51 and the first officer was 44; and pilot, Choi Sang-ki, and co-pilot, Lee Jung-woong are still missing.
One wing of the plane has been recovered, then the rest of the wreckage was found by a coast guard patrol boat 67 miles west of Jeju city. The 58 tons of cargo included amino acid solution, synthetic resin, lithium batteries, paint and other potentially dangerous material. A search for the black boxes is ongoing.
Air India flight AI-614 burst a tire on landing in Mumbai, India, on October 18th.
The Airbus A320-200 plane was flying from Ahmedabad, India, when it blew a tire during landing.
There were 128 people aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.
