    Continental Boeing encounters Turbulence

    What: Continental Airlines Boeing 767-200 en route from Rio de Janeiro to Houston
    Where: turbulence occurred southeast of Puerto Rico; diversion to Miami.
    When: Aug 3rd 2009
    Who: 168 passengers and 11 crew members
    Why: About an hour out of Miami, the flight encountered turbulence. Four received severe injuries and there were multiple lesser injuries. 28 individuals were treated at the airport on site; 9 were taken to hospitals. (Alternate reports say 13 were taken to hospitals.) The flight landed at Miami, an hour and fifteen minutes after the turbulence.

    Uninjured passengers were routed to Houston; in fact, they remained on the plane nearly three hours after landing because it was an International flight and had to be cleared by customs to arrive.

    Air France Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Hydraulic Leak

    Air France flight AF-7740 made an emergency landing in Toulon, France, on August 28th.

    The plane flying from Charles de Gaulle Airport, France, was on approach to Toulon when the crew noticed a hydraulic leak and declared an emergency.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Boeing Director William M. Daley Resigns Board Seat

    CHICAGO, Jan. 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — The Boeing (NYSE: BA) board of directors today accepted the resignation of director William M. Daley who, on Jan. 7, submitted his request to resign following his appointment as U.S. President Barack Obama’s chief of staff.

    “All of us at Boeing thank Bill for his contributions to our company and wish him well as he tackles this next phase of his exemplary public service career,” said Chairman, President and Chief Executive Jim McNerney.

    The resignation is effective as of Jan. 7. Daley, 62, joined the board in 2006. His public career includes serving as President Bill Clinton’s Commerce secretary from Jan. 1997, to July, 2000.

    PIA Flight Diverts to Muscat due to Engine Problem

    Pakistan International Airlines flight PK-194 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Muscat, Oman, on June 24th.

    The plane heading from Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, to Turbat, Pakistan, was diverted due to an engine problem.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Lufthansa Flight Makes Unscheduled Landing due to Medical Emergency

    LufthansaA medical emergency prompted the Lufthansa Airlines flight LH434 to make an emergency landing at Manchester airport, UK, on August 6.

    The incident happened when the flight was en route from Munich, Germany to Chicago.

    The Airbus A340-600 dumped fuel over Greater Manchester before landing safely at the airport shortly after 5 p.m.

    The sick passenger was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital for treatment. The nature of illness is not yet known.

    VivaAerobus Loses Engine over US

    What: VivaAerobus Boeing 737-300 en route from Monterrey to Las Vegas, NV
    Where: Las Vegas
    When: Aug 17 2011
    Why: More than half an hour prior to landing, the left engine began banging and vibrating.

    The crew shut down the engine, and continued on to land in Las Vegas minus the engine.

    The crew made a safe landing. No indication was made if the flight ingested a bird or if there was an other mechanical problem.
