    United Airlines Flight Returns to Guam after 26 Minutes

    United AirlinesUnited Airlines flight 5071, operated by Cape Air, had to return to Guam at 8:04 a.m. on August 25.

    The incident happened when the flight was on its way from Guam to Saipan.

    According to the regional director for Cape Air, David Baker, “Cape Air experienced a maintenance delay this morning and as a precautionary safety measure we returned back to Guam.”

    The Aerospatiale ATR-42-300 twin turboprop landed back safely after flying for about 26 minutes. All the passengers and crew members remained unhurt.

    Baker also stated that, “Once in Guam, the aircraft was inspected and returned back to service…Some of our morning departures experienced a six-hour delay, and we apologize for the customer inconvenience.”

    Authorities at the A.B. Won Pat Guam International Airport confirmed that it was a non-emergency landing.

    Small Plane Crashes near Boca Raton Airport, FL

    Cessna

    A Cessna 180 aircraft went down on a dirt road near Boca Raton Airport in Florida, at around 12:45 p.m. on October 12.

    The accident happened when the aircraft was on its way from Columbus Metropolitan Airport, Georgia, to Boca Raton Airport.

    There were 2 people aboard at the time of crash. Both of them escaped with only minor injuries.

    The aircraft is registered to John Dukesherer of Michigan.

    The cause of crash is being investigated.

    Nigeria: Arik Air 737 Bird Strike

    What: Arik Air Boeing 737-700 en route from Owerri to Lagos
    Where: Owerri Nigeria
    When: May 8th 2011
    Who: 69 passengers
    Why: While en route, the plane incurred a bird strike. The bird was ingested in an engine. The flight continued until there were severe vibrations on the right side of the plane (where the strike occurred).

    Passengers aboard the flight said they experienced five minutes of terror (that lasted forever) as the right side of the plane was vibrating. Presumably pilots shut down that engine after five minutes.

    The pilots made a safe landing in Lagos.

    What: Air France Airbus A330-200 en route from Sao Paulo to Paris Charles de Gaulle
    Where: over Atlantic
    When: Nov 30th 2009
    Who: not available
    Why: While en route over the Atlantic ( 680nm northeast of Fortaleza, Brazil and 750nm southwest of Praia, Cape Verde) the flight encountered severe turbulence, that led them to send out a mayday call, that was relayed by another Airbus amidflight from Paris to Rio.
    They descended to a lower altitude, and landed at Paris six hours forty minutes after the mayday call. This was reputedly one of several flights experiencing similar turbulence in the same area over the past month.

    American Airlines Flight Made Safe Emergency Landing in El Paso

    American AirlinesThe American Airlines flight 1551 made a safe emergency landing at the El Paso International Airport, Texas, at about 2:42 p.m. on June 14.

    All 145 people aboard the plane remained unharmed.

    The plane, a McDonnell Douglas MD-82, was originally heading towards the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport from Los Cabo International Airport in San Jose Del Cabo, Baja California Sur, Mexico.

    American Airlines spokesperson, Casey Norton, said that the decision for diversion and emergency landing was made after the pilot reported a maintenance indicator light.

    Liz Bellegarde, spokeswoman for the El Paso International Airport said the flight had to be diverted to El Paso because an engine of the plane had gone out.

    Royal Flight Plane Makes Emergency Landing due to Flaps Problem

    Royal Flight Airlines flight RL-305 had to return and make an emergency landing at Sheremetyevo International Airport, Russia, on October 8th.

    The Boeing 767-300 plane took off for Guiyang, China, but had to turn back due to an issue with the flaps.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
