What: An Air Canada Jazz Canadair CRJ-100 en route from Vancouver to Kelowna, Canada
Where: Vancouver
When: Dec 17th 2009
Who: 50 passengers
Why: While en route, the overhead panel emitted sparks and smoke. The plane returned to Vancouver and made a safe landing. A replacement flight was provided.

What: Cimber Sterling Airlines Avions de Tranport Regional ATR-72-500 en route from Copenhagen to Bornholm
Where: Bornholm
When: Dec 16 2010
Who: 31 passengers and 4 crew
Why: After landing, while taxiing back to the gate, the plane skidded off the runway, off of the pavement.
Passengers disembarked directly on to the runway via mobile stairs and were bussed to the terminal. The airport closed while the plane was moved.

What: Air China Boeing 737-800 en route from Sanya to Beijing (China)
Where: Nanning
When: Mar 6th 2012
Why: When a passenger found a string of fire crackers and turned them over to the flight attendants, the plane divert to Nanning where everyone disembarked with their luggage, and had to go through scans again. Everyone then re-entered the plane, and it continued to make a safe landing in Beijing.
One does wonder how the fire-crackers made it aboard to begin with.
Delta Airlines flight 1496 from Minneapolis St. Paul airport to New York made an emergency landing at Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at about 11:15 on July 26.
The decision to make an emergency landing was made after a smoky odor was detected in the MD-88 which had 148 passengers and 5 crew members aboard.
The plane landed safely and no one was hurt.
According to the Delta spokeswoman, the passengers were provided an alternate flight in the afternoon.
What: A Skyexpress Boeing 737-500 en route from Moscow Vnukovo to Sochi (Russia)
Where: Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport
When: Apr 4th 2009
Who: 69 passengers and 6 crew
Why: When instrumentation revealed unacceptable (dangerous) vibration of the left hand engine, the pilot shut down the left engine down, and burn off fuel before landing back at the airport of origin an hour after takeoff. There were no injuries.

Japan Air Commuter flight 3X-3768 made an emergency landing in Kagoshima, Japan, on December 10th.
The plane flying from Nakatane, Japan, was approaching Kagoshima Airport when the crew noticed smoke in the cockpit and cabin.
The plane continued for a safe landing,
All twenty-six passengers and four crew members remained unharmed.
