Who: 50 passengers
Why: While en route, the overhead panel emitted sparks and smoke. The plane returned to Vancouver and made a safe landing. A replacement flight was provided.

What: Jetstar Airbus A330 en route from Denpasar Bali to Melbourne
Where: Adelaide
When: Dec 19 2010,
Who: 226 passengers, 11 crew
Why: While en route, the right engine developed problems. Pilots announced to the passengers that they were experiencing engine problems.
The flight diverted to Adelaide and made a safe landing. Four hours after landing, passengers were provided alternative flights. However yesterday, weather in Australia also caused problems in Melbourne, including travel delays and at least one lightning strike.
Qantas has owned the jet since 2008, although it is new to the Jetsar fleet.

What: Lufthansa Airbus A319-100 en route from Frankfurt to Erbil
Where: Nuremberg
When: May 15th 2012
Why: After taking off from Frankfort, the plane was struck by lightning.
There was a storm front around Nuremberg. The plane remained on the ground; and a replacement jet took passengers to Erbil.

What: Ethiopian Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-11 en route from Cairo Egypt to Liege Belgium

Why: On approach, tire pressure sensors indicated a flat tire/tire failure. However, the flight landed safely without further problem.

What: Asiana Airlines Boeing 777-200 en from Seattle to Seoul

When: Aug 9 2010
Who: conflict between passengers
Why: After a disagreement among passengers in which a U.S. serviceman became violent, the pilot diverted to Anchorage. The unruly serviceman was removed from the plane and taken into custody, delaying the flight for two hours.
Eastern Airways flight T3 588 made an emergency landing at Aberdeen Airport in Scotland, on May 11.
According to an airline spokesperson, “On approach to Aberdeen, the captain of flight T3 588 from Durham Tees Valley received a cockpit warning indication relating to the smoke detector system in the toilet… The Saab 2000 aircraft with 26 passengers and four crew landed safely at 9.28pm… After landing, passengers disembarked via the aircraft steps on the runway as the airport fire service inspected the aircraft.”
No one was injured in the incident.

What: Turkish Airlines Airbus A340-300, en route from New York JFK,NY to Istanbul Ataturk
Where: divert to London Heathrow
When: Apr 16th 2009 6:30 local
Who: 185 passengers and 15 crew
Why: The cabin depressurized en route, and the flight was diverted to Heathrow for a safe landing. Although passengers experienced shortness of breath and ear pain, oxygen masks never did deploy.
