    Merpati Crashes in West Papua NG

    What: Merpati Nusantara Airlines Boeing 737-300 en route from Sarong to Manokwari West Papua. (Sorong-Dominique Edward Osok Airport to Rendani Airport)
    Where: Rendani Airport, Indonesia
    When: 12 April 2010
    Who: 97 passengers ( 76 men, 21 women, three children and three infants) 6 crew
    Why: While landing at Rendani in heavy fog and rain, the flight overshot the runway and/or hydroplaned on the wet runway, lost a wing in a forest at the end of the runway and partially ended up with the tail suspended in river shallows. The fuselage split in two. No one was trapped; everyone got out alive. Reports of injury vary, from 80 minor injuries to 20 individuals who sustained varying degrees of injury (broken bones and head injury), one who had facial injury and trouble breathing.

    Merpati is on the banned list. Nevertheless, Merpati spokesmen say this was entirely due to weather and not pilot error.

    Six Fatalities in Cessna Crash in Paraguay, Four Unidentified


    On August 30, 2013, a privately owned Cessna 210 crashed in Ypehû Paraguay en route from Silvio Pettirossi airport to Mariscal Estigarribia, Chaco.

    The pilot and five passengers died at the scene. Several of the victims were thrown from the plane.

    The wreckage was discovered at ten pm.

    Moacir Antonio Kuschel and his son Adriano Kuschel were identified, both Brazilian residents of San Alberto del Department of Alto Parana. Four victims remain unidentified. It is believed that Adriano Kuschel was piloting the plane. The Kuschels produced soy. One of the passengers is presumed to be Spanish.

    The Cessna had developed engine problems, and crashed in a remote area, a wheat field difficult to access, five miles from Ypehû Paraguay. The beacon was activated at 19.22 hrs, which began the search.

    Prosecutor José Zarza will be investigating.

    Moroccan Family Dies in Grenoble Plane Crash

    On January 5, 2013, a twin engine plane hit a remote hill near Grenoble and crashed, killing five. The pilot was flying his wife and three children from Grenoble France to Morocco. The plane (probably a Piper Seneca) disappeared from radar not long after takeoff.

    The family was returning home from a vacation in France. No one on the ground was hurt.

    Witnesses in Saint Pierre de Bressieux saw the plane crash. Emergency services dispatched to the scene found 5 deceased victims and a burning plane.

    Tara Air Plane Skids Off Runway in Nepal; At Least Four Injured

    A Tara Air plane skidded off runway at Simikot Airport, Nepal, on November 28th.

    The plane was accelerating to takeoff for Surkhet, Nepal, when it blew a nose tire and skidded off the runway.

    There were sixteen people aboard, including thirteen passengers and three crew members. At least four of them were injured in the accident, and were taken to Humla district hospital.

    The plane sustained substantial damage.

  • 5 Survive Fiery Manitoba Medevac Crash


    What: twin-engine King Air A100 SkyNorth Air Ltd medevac flight en route to Thompson
    Where: Northwest of the Gods Lake Narrows aboriginal reserve in Manitoba.
    When: 9:45 p.m. Saturday
    Who: 5 passengers on a medical evacuation and pilot
    Why: When the plane caught fire midflight, the pilot landed in the bush. Passengers included Jane Halcrow, her 10-month-old son Zachias who was sick, copilot and a flight nurse. Everyone survived the crash although the plane was completely destroyed.

    1 Killed, 3 Injured as Helicopter Crashes in Indonesia

    A Bell 206 helicopter crashed in Paniai district of Papua Province, Indonesia, on June 4th.

    The aircraft went down when it was transporting three passengers from Nabire to a mining site in Degewo.

    The pilot was killed in the crash while the passengers were taken to hospital with serious injuries. Spokesperson of Indonesia’s national police Agus Rianto said, “We have evacuated the passengers to the nearby city of Nabire so they could get medical treatment.”

    The cause of crash is being investigated.
