    US Airways Fumes Hospitalize 5 in Charlotte

    What: US Airways en route from New York
    Where: Charlotte-Douglas International Airport
    When: Aug 18, 2011
    Who: 183 passengers, 5 crew
    Why: While en route, the crew declared an emergency.

    Passengers and crew were affected by fumes that spread from the cabin to the cockpit. The fumes aboard the flight seemed to be worse in the back of the plane. In addition to the odor, passengers felt confused and dizzy, and some had chest pains, and had to use on board oxygen masks. It was described as “a very unpleasant odor.”

    The flight diverted to Charlotte and made a safe landing. Maintenance inspected the plane, the third such incident in Charlotte in two weeks.

    Five people aboard the flight were hospitalized.

    Air Wisconsin Plane Returns to Manchester due to Gear Issue

    airwisconsinAir Wisconsin flight ZW-4047/AA-4047 had to return and make an emergency landing at Manchester Airport, Manchester, UK, on July 19th.

    The Canadair CRJ-200 en-route to Pennsylvania had to return due to a gear issue.

    The plane landed safely.

    No injuries were reported.

    Qantas Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Heathrow Airport

    Qantas flight QF-2 had to return and make an emergency landing at Heathrow Airport, England, on February 7th.

    The Airbus A380-800 plane took off for Singapore but had to turn back due to a cargo door indication.

    The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    What: Emirates Airbus A330-200 en route from Thiruvananthapuram to Dubai
    Where: Thiruvananthapuram
    When: August 24, 2010
    Who: 278 passengers
    Why: After a hydraulic probelm developed in the landing gear of the Airbus, the pilot intended to divert to Mumbai, but instead made an emergency landing back at Thiruvananthapuram. It was a safe landing and there were no injuries.

    A replacement jet was provided.

    Air Niugini Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Cabin Pressure Problems

    Air Niugini flight PX-2006 had to return and make an emergency landing in Brisbane, Australia, on April 10th.

    The Boeing 737-300 freighter plane took off for Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, but had to turn back due to issues with the cabin pressure.

    The plane landed back uneventfully. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    United Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Cleveland

    new-united-logoA United Airlines flight had to divert and make an emergency landing at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport in Cleveland, Ohio, on December 17.

    The flight, en-route from Los Angeles, California to Newark, New Jersey, was diverted after the pilot reported possible smoke on board.

    The plane landed safely and no one aboard was hurt.

    An Airline spokesperson confirmed that the passengers were accommodated in other flights to Newark.

    The cause of smoke is being investigated.
