    Cathay Dragon Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Hong Kong

    Cathay Dragon flight KA-617 made an emergency landing in Hong Kong, China, on August 2nd.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane flying from Xiamen, China, was descending toward Hong Kong when the crew reported an issue with the nose wheel steering.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. All one hundred and sixty-two people aboard remained unharmed.

    Lufthansa Flight Makes Unscheduled Landing due to Medical Emergency

    LufthansaA medical emergency prompted the Lufthansa Airlines flight LH434 to make an emergency landing at Manchester airport, UK, on August 6.

    The incident happened when the flight was en route from Munich, Germany to Chicago.

    The Airbus A340-600 dumped fuel over Greater Manchester before landing safely at the airport shortly after 5 p.m.

    The sick passenger was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital for treatment. The nature of illness is not yet known.

    Air Ambulance Emergency Landing

    What: ORNGE AugustaWestland air ambulance en route from Billy Bishop island airport to a patient west of Toronto
    Where: Colonel Samuel Smith Park south of Lake Shore Boulevard West.
    When: March 23, 2012, 6:00 pm
    Who: 2 pilots, 2 medics
    Why: While en route to pick up a Toronto patient, the air ambulance door opened and a window blew out. The pilots had to make an immediate emergency landing near Humber College.

    No one was injured, but they had been in jeopardy. Sn ORNGE insider said if the door or window hit the tail rotor “it could have been catastrophic.”

    Two aircraft engineers removed the faulty door. The flight crew flew the chopper back to the airport for examination.

    A known problem of the AW139 is the helicopters tail rotors. An EASA directive of Aug. 19 2011 ordered helicopter owners to replace the tail rotors after 600 hours of flight following a fatal accident “possibly caused by cracks in a TR (tail rotor) blade.”

    Air Canada Flight Diverts to Shannon Airport due to Medical Emergency

    Air Canada flight AC-868 made an emergency landing at Shannon Airport, Ireland, on December 24th.

    The plane flying from Toronto, Canada, to London, United Kingdom, was diverted after a 10-year-old girl had a cardiac arrest midair.

    The plane landed safely. The child was immediately taken to University Hospital Limerick where she was later pronounced dead.

    Plane Crash Investigation Reveals Cause

    On April 29, we reported the National Air Cargo flight that crashed when it’s load shifted and the plane stalled. Federal investigators and Boeing experts went to Afghanistan to to assist in the investigation.

    On Jun 2nd 2013, the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation of Afghanistan investigation announced officially that it was the weight of three armored vehicles and two mine sweepers 80 tons––of shifting cargo that caused the plane to crash.

    The wiring in the back of the plane was cut by impact with the cargo, leaving the pilots helpless to control the plane.

    There were no survivors.

    Dust Storm Diverts Turkish Plane

    What: Turkish Airlines flight TK-260 en route from Istanbul to Kayseri.
    Where: Nevsehir
    When: Sunday
    Who: 194 passengers
    Why: The plane could not land at it’s scheduled Erkilet Airport destination, because of the wind and limited visibility due to dust. The flight was rerouted to Kapadokya Airport in Nevsehir where it made an emergency landing. Passengers were bused to Kayseri.
