    Murcia-Bound Jet2 Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Paris

    Jet2A Jet2 flight heading to Murcia, Spain, from East Midlands Airport, had to divert and make an emergency landing at Charles de Gaulle airport, Paris, at 4:58 p.m. on June 10.

    The flight took off from East Midlands Airport at 3:45 p.m. and was expected to land in Murcia at 7:10 p.m.

    A spokesperson for the airline said the diversion was a “precautionary measure due to a technical fault…The aircraft landed safely and all passengers are being looked after by our crew and will continue onto Murcia as soon as possible. We would like to apologize to our customers for the delay to the start of their holiday.”

    Air Berlin Jet Diverts to Turkey to Kick Out Elderly Woman for Using Wrong Toilet

    air berlinAn Air Berlin flight made an emergency landing at Erzurum Airport in Turkey, on October 21.

    The pilot requested an emergency landing after an elderly Slovakian woman used the toilet reserved for business class travelers. The plane was en-route from Vienna, Austria to Abu Dhabi, UAE at the time. According to Edita Kmetova, 60, she got sick mid-flight and had to use business class toilet because economy class toilet was already in use. When she came out, the pilot, business class passengers, and stewardesses confronted her and handcuffed her for the rest of the flight.

    The plane landed safely in Erzurum. According to the airport manager Abubekir Özcan, he asked the crew to un-cuff her and took her for questioning. However, since she had no criminal record, she was released.

    Özcan also said he had requested the pilot to allow Kmetova to continue her journey as she had no money and looked devastated. But the pilot took off without her.

    American Airlines Battery down over Atlantic

    What: American Airlines Boeing 757-200 en route from Boston to Paris
    Where: (over Atlantic) Gander
    When: Jun 2nd 2010
    Why: While en route, the flight experienced problems with their standby battery recharging system. (The battery is essential to standby power in an emergency situation. ) The flight diverted to Gander where it made a safe overweight landing. A replacement jet was provided.

    Emergency Landing in Hollywood


    What: KTLA EUROCOPTER AS350 helicopter
    Where: Hollywood Boulevard and Franklin Avenue.
    When: August 28, 2012 1:00 pm
    Who: pilot and passenger
    Why: When the helicopter started giving off blue and white smoke, the first to see it was the pilot of another helicopter.

    KTLA pilot Tim Lynn declared an emergency, then made a forced landing in a parking lot of the senior center at Hollywood Boulevard and Franklin Avenue.

    The incident was witnessed by SKY2 pilot Dan Catalano (who taught Lynn to fly heicopters.)

    The smoke came from an oil leak. Some newspapers report two aboard the helicopter but the FAA entry only reports the presence of the pilot.

    Iran Air Plane Returns to Iran due to Engine Shut Down

    Iran Air flight IR-725 had to return and make an emergency landing at Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport, Iran, on July 9th.

    The Airbus A300-600 flying to Amsterdam, Netherlands, had to return due to engine shut down.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    All 230 passengers aboard remained safe.

    ATA Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing After Bird Strike

    ATA Airlines flight I3-6636 made an emergency landing in Tabriz, Iran, on September 12th.

    The plane took off for Baku, Azerbaijan, but had to turn back due to a bird strike.

    The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.
