Air India Emergency Diversion to Kozhikode

What: Air India Airbus A321 en route from Kozhikode in Kerala to Sharjah
    Where: Kozhikode
    Who: 168 passengers
Why: The pilot of an Air India flight alerted Kozhikode Air traffic control that there was a problem with the plane, and diverted back to Kozhikode shortly after takeoff.

The air conditioning inside the plane was shut down, and there were sparks noted from one of the engines. Whether or not the cause of the engine sparking was a bird strike has not been confirmed.

According to passengers, the plane “started vibrating as soon as it took off from the runway.”

Passengers also said they were not provided a hotel, but promised a flight at 12 pm, then at 4:40 a.m, and finally were provided an actual flight at 5:40 a.m.

What: Andes Lineas Aereas McDonnell Douglas MD-82 en route from Buenos Aires Newbery,BA to Puerto Madryn Argentina
    Where: Bahia Blanca
    When: May 22nd 2009
Who: 140 passengers and 7 crew
Why: The right engine shut down when oil pressure (or the quantity of oil) went down. The flight was diverted to divert to Bahia Blanca

    George’s Point of View

Another emergency on another MD-82. Two engines are always safer than one, and we’re all glad they made a safe diversion…

Now…how old was the plane? Was this a leak that just developed, or a lapse of maintenance?

Generator Failure Takes Down Delta Plane

    Where: GSP Airport
    When: September 10, 2009
    Who: h 213 passengers and 11 crew
Why: Nearly an hour into the flight, the plane had problems with the on board generator. The plane landed at GSP airport without event, and passengers debarked at 2:30 am. No injuries were reported; fire and emergency crews were on standby.

    George’s Point of View

This is a generator. Why is this something the pilot lucked into in mid-flight? This is what maintenance crews are for. When do they get serviced, only after they stop working?
