Small Planes Collided Mid-Air above Switzerland; 7 Injured

small planeTwo small planes collided midair over Wil, a town in St. Gallen canton in northeastern Switzerland, in the afternoon of August 24.

According to St. Gallen Canton Police, both the aircrafts, one en-route from Lommis airport in Thurgau canton and the other flying from Zurich, were able to land in emergency after the collision.

One of the planes landed in a field. All 4 people aboard this plane, including the pilot, were seriously injured.

The second plane landed in a Sitterdorf airfield, injuring the pilot and 2 passengers on board.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.

    What: Turkish Airlines Boeing 737-800 en route from Istanbul to Stuttgart
    Where: Istanbul
    When: Jan 28th 2010
    Who: 42 passengers
    Why: After takeoff, the flight crew found an (undesignated) problem in the left engine. That engine was shut down, and the flight returned to Ataturk Airport for a safe landing. Passengers were rebooked when the flight was cancelled.

    Avianca Brazil Flight Makes Emergency Landing After Bird Strike

    Avianca Brazil flight O6-6376 had to return and make an emergency landing in Juazeiro do Norte, Brazil, on May 15th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Fortaleza, Brazil, but had to turn back after it suffered a bird strike.

    The plane landed safely. All ninety-one passengers remained unharmed.

    Aeropostal Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Venezuela

    Aeropostal Airlines flight VH-150 made an emergency landing in Barquisimeto, Venezuela, on February 27th.

    The plane flying from Caracas, Venezuela, was on approach to Barquisimeto when the crew received an engine fire indication.

    The plane continued for a safe landing.

    The passengers were evacuated via slides. No injuries were reported.

    Why: The pilot reported engine trouble after take off but was never found by rescue parties. In fact, after the distress signal, he was considered missing during the two hour search. Until the man’s wife reported that he called to report he’d had arrived safely after his plane experienced a power failure

    Two Killed After Small Plane Crashes at Naval Air Station Kingsville

    A small plane crashed at Naval Air Station Kingsville, Texas, on April 25th.

    The civilian-owned plane crashed shortly after taking off from the base.

    There were two people aboard, including the pilot and a passenger. Both were killed in the crash. It is believed that they had come to visit an employee of the base.
