    Who: 2 aboard, 1 fatality
    Why: Pilot Timothy Hudok was killed in his Cessna three miles west of Beluga Lake. The wreckage was found by Alaskan State Troopers at Triumvirate Glacier after the pilot’s wife had alerted the FAA to the flight being overdue. Passenger Robert Goodwill who survived was airlifted to Providence Alaska Medical center.

    Ryanair Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Athens due to a Disruptive Passenger

    RyanairA Ryanair flight en route from Thessaloniki, Greece to Paphos, Cyprus, had to make an emergency landing in Athens due to a disruptive passenger.

    The plane took off at about 10 p.m. on June 23, with 168 passengers aboard. Soon after take-off, a 37 year old passenger claiming to be a “mechanic” started banging at the cockpit door and tried to break-in.

    The pilot reported the situation to Greek authorities who advised him to land in Athens. The troublesome passenger, believed to be a Cypriot national, was immobilized by the crew members and other passengers while the plane, which was just 20 minutes into the flight, was turned towards Athens. The plane safely landed and the passenger was handed over to the police.

    The passengers were accommodated in nearby hotels for the night. They continued their journey to Paphos on the next day.

    A spokesperson of Ryanair said, “We will fully assist the Greek police with the prosecution of this individual. We apologise sincerely to our other 168 customers on this flight for any delay or inconvenience suffered as a result of this diversion.”

    American Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Champaign

    American Airlines flight AA-3478 had to return and make an emergency landing in Champaign, Illinois, on December 13th.

    The plane took off for O’Hare International Airport, Chicago, Illinois, but had to turn back after the crew noticed fumes in the cockpit.

    The plane landed back safely. All eighteen people aboard remained unharmed.

    American Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Arkansas

    American Airlines flight AA-1129 had to make an emergency landing in Little Rock, Arkansas, on December 15th.

    The McDonnell Douglas MD-82 plane was flying from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Texas, to Indianapolis, Indiana, when a passenger’s e-cigarette overheated and started emitting smoke.

    The crew diverted the plane to Little Rock where it landed safely.

    All 137 people aboard remained unharmed.

    Spain-Bound EasyJet Flight Returns to Manchester Airport

    EasyjetEasyJet flight EZY1877 had to return and make an emergency landing at Manchester Airport in England, on February 17.

    The plane took off from Manchester for Bilbao, Spain but had to turn back shortly afterwards due to smell of fumes in the cabin.

    The plane made an uneventful emergency landing and no one aboard was harmed.

    An airline spokesperson said, “The aircraft landed safely at Manchester and was met by the fire service in line with routine procedures…The safety and welfare of our passengers and crew is easyJet’s highest priority. The passengers disembarked the aircraft as normal and have been transferred to the terminal and are awaiting a replacement aircraft to Bilbao…We would like to apologise for any inconvenience experienced due to the delay.”

    Swiss International Air Lines Plane Returns to Pristina after Bird Strike

    swissSwiss International Air Lines flight EDW-405 made an emergency landing in Pristina, Kosovo, on October 3rd.

    The plane took off for Zurich, Switzerland, but had to turn back after one of the engines ingested a bird.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unhurt.
