Why: The Turkish Airforce flight fell into the Aegean Sea, killing both the pilot and passenger. The Cessna is normally used for training. The flight took off from the Jet Base Flight Training Center but it has not been released if this was a training exercise. The pilot and passenger have not yet been recovered.

Why: The official word is that the plane developed mechanical trouble and was in the process of an emergency landing. On one account, the plane clipped a power line on approach to the runway and crashed. Another account says the plane struck a wooden utility pole. The plane also sheared off the valve to a sewage pipe, spewubg a geyser 25,000 gallons of raw sewage. The airport was closed. It took 45 minutes to extricate the pilot from the wreckage as sewage rained down on them. Decontamination at the scene was comprised of stripping down to their shorts and being hosed down on site.A salvage crew removed the wereckage to Pearblossom in Los Angeles County,

New Norwegian Hercules Splinters into Kebnekaise Mountain
What: Norwegian military Hercules C-130-J cargo plane en route from Evenes military base to Kiruna Sweden (military exercise)
Where: Kebnekaise Mountain

Why: The plane disappeared from radar as it crossed a mountain range in northern Sweden. It apparently flew into the west side of the mountain, demolishing the plane into pieces smaller than a sheet of paper. There had been bad weather (poor visibility brought on by low clouds, snow and strong winds) at the time of the crash. Harsh weather in the area has been delaying recovery. Wreckage is strewn over a wide area on top of Robots Glacier on the western side of Kebnekaise. No signal was heard from the Hercules’ emergency transmitter.The Norwegian armed forces indicated that the accident may have occurred when pilots flew manually instead of on autopilot. The mission involved tactical flying. Crew members lost in the crash were Lt. Col. Truls Oerpen, 46; Capt. Staale Garberg, 42; Capt. Bjoern Yngvar Haug, 40; Capt. Steinar Utne, 35; and Capt. Nepal Airlines Crash Landing in Jomsom
Twenty-one people aboard a Nepal Airlines de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter 300 survived the attempted landing 125 miles NW of Kathmandu.Everyone aboard survived but everyone was injured. Five of the tourists were seriously injured.
On landing at Jomsom airport at 8:30 a.m., the brakes failed, and the plane skidded to the banks of the Kali Gandaki river. The wheel of the plane slipped off the runway and turned right. The front of the plane was wrecked and in the water. The back appears intact.
Eight passengers were Japanese, and on pilgrimage to Muktinath, a sacred Buddhist site at the foot of the Thorong La Himalayan mountain pass.
The rest of those aboard were Nepali.
An investigation is underway. The accident is currently being attributed to brake failure. Jomsom airport is known as one of the most dangerous on earth.
