What: Asiana Airlines Boeing 777-200 en from Seattle to Seoul

Who: conflict between passengers
Why: After a disagreement among passengers in which a U.S. serviceman became violent, the pilot diverted to Anchorage. The unruly serviceman was removed from the plane and taken into custody, delaying the flight for two hours.
Smartwings flight QS-3179 made an emergency landing in Prague, Czech Republic, on April 9th.
The Boeing 737-800 plane flying from Tel Aviv, Israel, was on approach to Prague when the crew reported they had a park brake set indication.
The plane landed safely. All one hundred and seventy passengers aboard remained unharmed.

What: Air France Airbus A340-300 en route from Boston,MA to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport
Where: Boston’s Logan Airport
When: Jul 22nd 2009 (returned at 2 am)
Who: 125 people
Why: During or immediately after takeoff, the number 4 engine caught afire. The crew shut down the engine, put out the fire, and dumped fuel before safely landing at the airport, where emergency crews remained on standby for “hot brakes.”

United Airlines flight UA-76 had to make an emergency landing in Manchester, United Kingdom, on February 27th.
According to the airline, the Boeing 757-200 plane heading from Belfast, United Kingdom, to New York/Newark was diverted due to a mechanical issue.
The plane landed safely. All 160 passengers remained unharmed.

What: Air New Zealand Airbus A320-200 en route from Sydney to Wellington
Where: over the Tasman Sea
When: Mar 13th 2010
Who: 99 passengers and 8 crew
Why: While en route, the crew received an indicator message that the hydraulics were down (a hydraulics warning light.) The flight was diverted to Auckland where they made a safe landing, even though nosewheel steering (undercarriage problem) is said to have been affected.
5 Fire Service/rescue trucks and ambulance staff were on stand by during the landing.
Passengers were provided overnight accommodations and booked on alternative flights.
Southwest Airlines flight 346 had to make an emergency landing in San Jose, California, on May 9th.
The plane, heading from Phoenix, Arizona, to San Francisco, California, was diverted after the crew reported smoke in the cockpit.
The plane landed safely. All 170 passengers and 6 crew members remained unhurt.

What: PIA Pakistan International Airlines Boeing 747-300 en route from Islamabad to Karachi
Where: Karachi
When: Aug 7th 2010
Who: 400 passengers
Why: After landing in heavy rain, the plane was in the process of taxiing to the gate when the crew was informed that the tires had blown on landing. Passengers disembarked via mobile stairs directly on to the tarmac and were provided transport to the gate.
