Why: While en route, the plane was struck by lightning. As a safety measure, in spite of no visible damage, the crew decided to return to the airport, where the passengers debarked and were referred to alternative flights.

Pakistan International Airlines flight PK-296 made an emergency landing in Lahore, Pakistan, on September 5th.
TUIFly flight HG-2273 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Athens International Airport, Greece, on June 30th.
The Boeing 737-800 flying on behalf of FlyNiki and Air Berlin from Heraklion, Greece, to Berlin Tegel, Germany, had to divert due to electrical problems.
The plane landed safely.
