    Federal Officials Investigating Louisiana Crash


    What: Sikorsky S-76C helicopter, operated by PHI Inc
    Where: Louisiana marshland – Bayou Penchant area about 100 miles from New Orleans in southwestern Terrebonne Parish
    When: Sunday Jan. 4, 2009
    Who: eight fatalities, one survivor. The helicoptor was carrying two pilots and seven passengers The dead were identified as Allen Boudreaux, of Ama, La.; Andrew Moricio and Ezequiel Cantu of Morgan City, La.; Randy Tarpley of Jonesville, La.; Jorey A. Rivero, of Bridge City, La.; Charles W. Nelson of Pensacola, Fla.; Thomas E. Ballenger of Eufaula, Ala. and Vyarl W. Martin of Hurst, Texas. The injured survivor is Steven Yeltin was medevacted; he is listed as being in critical condition and is awaiting to be transferred to Oschner Medical Center from the Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center in Houma. Mike Moreno, CEO of the Moreno Group along with Dynamic Industries, employed five of the victims.
    Why: The helicopter is believed to have crashed about seven minutes after it took off at 3 p.m, A distress signal was received just after 3. The NTSB investigation is well underway and the black box has already been recovered.

    1 Dead, 6 Injured after Heli-Ski Helicopter Crashed in Wanaka

    HelicopterA heli-ski helicopter crashed on Mount Alta near Wanaka, New Zealand, at around 12:20 p.m. on August 16.

    The accident happened when the helicopter run by Harris Mountain Heli-Ski was carrying 7 people, including a pilot, a ski guide and 5 skiers. All of them were New Zealanders.

    One of the heli-skiers died while all others aboard suffered injuries of varied degrees. Two of the injured with minor injuries were taken to Wanaka Medical Centre. Four with comparatively serious injuries were transported to Dunedin Hospital.

    Skyline Enterprises Chairman Mark Quickfall said, “I spoke to one of our senior pilots who was first on the scene. As he said to me, it’s a perfect day for flying and heli-skiing. Certainly not windy. So [we] can’t put any light on it at this stage.” He also said there were six other helicopters out heli-skiing on the same day.

    The Civil Aviation Authority and Transport Accident Investigation Commission are investigating the cause of the crash.

    Cessna Airplane Crashed Near Searcy Municipal Airport, Arkansas

    russiancessnacrashA single engine Cessna airplane crashed in White County, around two miles towards south of the Searcy Municipal Airport.

    According to the chief deputy for the White County sheriff’s office, Phillip Miller, the accident was reported to 911 at about 2:50pm on Friday. The emergency teams rushed to scene where they found an overturned Cessna plane in a field.

    There were two persons on board and the authorities confirmed that both of them escaped with only minor injuries.

    The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the cause of accident

    Blackburn Canyon Cessna Crash, Tehachapi Wildfire


    What: Cessna 210
    Where: Blackburn Canyon, Tehachapi, California
    When: Sept 4, 2011
    Who: 2 aboard, 2 fatalities
    Why: A Cessna that crashed in Blackburn Canyon, Tehachapi, California killed both people aboard the flight and ignited a fire that caused the evacuation of hundreds of homes south of Bakersfield. Two were confirmed dead in the crash, and it has not (yet) been confirmed if there were more than 2 aboard.

    As of Monday, the number of evacuations had grown from 100 to 650 to about 1,500 homes homes. The threatened area was the mountains around the crash and a seven square mile burn area, all threatened by a raging forest fire. Firefighters concentrated on creating a fire-break.

    A DC-10 water tanker has been part of the firefighting team, including 600 firefighters and more than a dozen aircraft.

    Tehachapi, with a population of 8,000, has some renown as an area with wind farms. Smaller fires spread to San Bernardino National Forest and rural areas of San Bernardino County.

    The fire has been 95% contained.

    Bolivian Plane Crashes, Killing , Passenger Manifest

    An Aerocon Fairchild Swearingen Metroliner en route from the Teniente Jorge Henrich Arauz Airport developed a problem as it caught fire upon landing at 4 p.m. at Riberalta Airport.

    Three officials of the Governorate of Beni were aboard.

    The Bolivian aircraft came to rest wheels up and was consumed by the fire.

    Of the sixteen passengers and two crew, eight aboard sustained fatal injuries. The pilot and copilot survived but are in grave condition. Riberalta Hospital had previously reported eight dead and six wounded. The dead were significantly burned and will have to be identified through DNA.

    The rainfall was heavy as the plane landed, and may have exacerbated the pilot’s difficulty.

    Eight of the injured were taken to the hospital Riberalta while two took him to the clinic December 4. While the pilots were evacuated to the city of Guayaramerín and then transferred to Santa Cruz.

    After Pressure Loss, Mayday, Diversion to Frankfurt

    What: Ryanair Boeing 737-800 en route from Milan, Italy to East Midlands
    Where: Frankfurt
    When: Apr 4th 2012
    Who: 134 passengers
    Why: Fifteen minutes after takeoff, while over Lugano Switzerland, the cabin lost pressure, deploying oxygen masks. Pilots made a Mayday announcement heard by passengers on the public address system, and descended to 9000 feet. Passengers were alarmed as they watched the alps approach at a rapid rate. In five minutes, they descended four miles. They diverted to Frankfurt Germany where they made a safe landing at at 12:00 local time.

    A replacement jet was provided.

    Three passengers were injured and hospitalized with ear problems. A news report said there were ten passengers with minor injuries. Some passengers told reporters they were panicking, but no one was screaming.
