What: Swiss International Airlines Airbus A321 en route from Zurich to London
Where: Zurich
When: Oct 31st 2010
Who: 194 passengers
Why: After takeoff, the plane suffered a bird strike.

The pilot returned to Zurich where they made a safe landing. The plane was taken out of service to be inspected for damage, and passengers were provided alternative transportation. No description of the amount of damage or the unfortunate bird has been provided.

Eurowings Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Luxembourg

Eurowings flight EW-6812 had to divert for an emergency landing in Luxembourg on May 16th.

The Airbus A320-200 plane heading from Palma, Spain, to Dortmund, Germany, was diverted due to issues with the cabin pressurization system.

The plane landed safely. All 117 passengers aboard remained unharmed.

IndiGo Flight Returns to Chennai due to Engine Issue

IndiGo flight 6E-923 had to return and make an emergency landing in Chennai, India, on January 3rd.

The plane took off for Kolkata, India, but had to turn back after the crew needed to shut down one of the engines.

The plane landed back safely. All one hundred and thirty-six people aboard remained unharmed.

What: United/Colgan de Havilland Dash 8-400 en route from Little Rock,AR to Houston
Where: Houston
When: Apr 7th 2012
Who: 31 passengers, 4 crew
Why: While on approach to Houston, the gear did not come down. The crew performed a fly by, and ATC confirmed that the main gear were down but not the front (nose) landing gear.

The pilots made a second approach which concluded landing on the main gear. The pilots kept the nose up as long as possible.

What: UPS Boeing 767-300 en route from Sao Paulo to Buenos Aires
Where: Sao Paulo
When: Feb 7th 2010
Why: While en route, the flight developed hydraulics issues and returned to Viracopos to make a safe landing.

JetBlue Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Boston

JetBlue flight B6-1095 had to return and make an emergency landing in Boston, Massachusetts, on January 6th.

The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, but had to turn back after a foul odor was noticed on-board, causing passengers and crew members to feel sick.

The plane landed safely. Medical teams examined several passengers at the airport.

Manchester-bound Airbus Struck by Lightning

What: Easyjet Airbus A320-200 en route from Athens Greece to Manchester
Where: Manchester
When: Jan 27th 2012
Why: On approach to Manchester, at 1300 feet the plane was struck by lightning, burning the fuselage under the cockpit window.

The first approach was aborted due (apparently) to snow on the runway. The plane circled for less than half an hour before making a safe landing.
