Volga-Dnepr Airlines taxi-strike in Russia


On Feb 26, 2013, a Volga-Dnepr Airlines Antonov An-124 with sixteen aboard arriving from Ulyanovsk at Kaan International Airport was taxiing when its left wing struck a parked Tulpar Air Yakolev 42. You can see the damage it left.

The damaged UTAir, lsf Tulpar Air is a Yakovlev Yak-42D that was unmanned and parked at the time of the incident.

According to preliminary data, the culprit is the commander of the aircraft AN-124. The pilot apparently miscalculated the radius of the turn.

8 of the sixteen aboard were crew. No injuries were reported.

News reports say the pilot will be tested for alcohol.

    Why: 38 vehicles carrying a hundred firefighters responded to the scene of a fire at the Krasnojarsk Cheremshanka Airport but failed to save the airport’s tower. The first thing that caught fire was roof of the terminal, where it began, they suspect, with a short circuit. Then the fire spread until the terminal collapsed. It took four hours to put out the fire, but no one was injured. The airport was the hub for Katekavia Airlines and the base airport of the Siberian Regional Emergencies Department Centre.

    One airport employee was evacuated by truck ladder. They were not hospitalized. The roof took five minutes to become engulfed.

    Flights have been transferred to the neighboring Emelianovo airport.

    Aeroflot with Engine Shut Down Makes Safe Landing

    What: Aeroflot Airbus A319-100 en route from Nizhniy Novgorod to Moscow Sheremetyevo
    Where: Moscow
    When: Dec 28th 2011
    Who: 76 aboard
    Why: While en route, the right engine developed problems, and pilots had to shut it down.

    The flight landed safely at Sheremetyevo less than a quarter hour after the engine was shut down.

    S7 Airlines Plane Makes Emergency Landing due to Brakes Problem

    S7 Airlines flight S7-1148 made an emergency landing in Moscow, Russia, on February 6th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane flying from Krasnodar, Russia, was on final approach to Moscow when the crew reported a brakes problem and went around.

    The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    ATR 42–500 Makes Safe Landing at Tolmachevo after Gear Failure

    What: NordStar Airlines ATR 42–500
    Where: Tolmachevo Airport Russia

    Who: 31 aboard 4 crew, 27 passengers
    Why: The press service of the West Siberian Transport Prosecutor’s Office reported a hard landing of the NordStar Airlines ATR 42–500.

    The plane had taken off normally but the gears would not retract. THe pilot informed ATC and returned to the airport where pilots made a safe landing (though reported as a “crash” landing.) No one was injured.

    The West Siberian Transport Prosecutor’s Office will be investigating.

    Yak-18 Emergency Landing Underwater


    ON AUGUST 11, 2013, a Aero Park “Voskresenka” Samara-operated Yakovlev Yak-18 made an emergency landing at the Volga river. The pilot was the only one aboard and he was unhurt.

    Rescue services responding included Main Directorate of MOE Russia in Samara region: 18 people, 6 pieces of equipment; Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations: 7 people and 3 vehicles.

    Diving operations were engaged to help retrieve the plane. The cause of the plane’s engine failure has not been determined.

    Cabin Pressure Forces Flight Down in Moscow

    Where: Moscow

    Why: After takeoff, the flight developed cabin pressurization issues.

    A half hour after takeoff, the flight returned to Vnukovo Airport in Moscow, and made a safe landing.
