Fire Consumes Krasnojarsk Cheremshanka Airport Terminal

Who: no injuries or deaths reported
Why: 38 vehicles carrying a hundred firefighters responded to the scene of a fire at the Krasnojarsk Cheremshanka Airport but failed to save the airport’s tower. The first thing that caught fire was roof of the terminal, where it began, they suspect, with a short circuit. Then the fire spread until the terminal collapsed. It took four hours to put out the fire, but no one was injured. The airport was the hub for Katekavia Airlines and the base airport of the Siberian Regional Emergencies Department Centre.

One airport employee was evacuated by truck ladder. They were not hospitalized. The roof took five minutes to become engulfed.

Flights have been transferred to the neighboring Emelianovo airport.

    What: United Airlines Airbus A320-200 en route from Chicago to Boston
    Where: Logan International
    When: Oct 23, 2012
    Who: 144 passengers, 5 crew
    Why: The pilot was on approach to Logan when he noticed a problem with his instruments.

    The pilot informed ATC of instrument failures and pressurization issues. ATC cleared a holding pattern, until the pilot performed a visual landing.

    Military Jet Crashes, Pilot Ejects


    An Indian Air Force MiG-29 was engaged in training maneuvers when the pilot ejected near Jamnagar in Gujarat, and the plane crashed. The wreckage is between Amran and Jivapar villages which are close to Jamangar airbase,

    During the training flight, the plane developed a “technical snag.”

    A court of inquiry is underway.

    Dangerous Maintenance

    It’s not just that they’re sending American jobs out of the country. There’s another question here: Is outsourcing maintenance endangering passengers because the lack of federal oversight?

    Forty percent of maintenance is being sent to third world countries which are documented to have lower standards and security lapses. Saving money may be the intent, but is the savings as important as the performer of the maintenance being able to read the manuals and order forms of the machines he is working on.     Aegean Airlines La Traviata On Board

    I’ve flown Aegean Airlines before, but I wasn’t aboard this flight on May 28 when Tenor Dimitris Paksoglou and soprano Eleni Kelesidis got out of their seats and started singing La Traviata.

    I think I’d have more of a reaction than the people aboard, who seem about as cool as cucumbers, and took it all in stride. I’ve been on a lot of planes, but not one while it served live opera, or made a couple of singers from the Greece’s National Opera troupe sing for their supper. I wonder if they took requests? Wednesday was the 15 year anniversary of AEGEAN Airlines. I think at the very least I’d have requested “Happy birthday”.

    I have flown that airlines to Athens. I’ve never been serenaded on it (yet), but it’s a good airline.

    Airbus Makes Emergency Landing in Moscow

    What: Pakistan Airlines A-310 en route from Islamabad to Manchester
    Where: Moscow
    When: December 22, 2009
    Who: 189 passengers and 12 crew
    Why: While en route, the flight developed an emergency and diverted to Moscow where it landed safely. Passengers are awaiting alternative transportation.
