    Piper Crash in Mississippi


    What: Superior Pallet Co. Piper PA-32-300 Cherokee Six
    Where: Jackson, Miss
    When: Nov 13, 2012, 5:00pm
    Who: 3 fatalities, 1 injured
    Why: Three people aboard the Piper that crashed in Jackson Mississippi died at the scene.

    The residence of hLoretta and Roosevelt Jamison went up in flames after the plane impacted. Ironically, the plane had been en route to an FAA safety conference.

    The pilot had taken off but once underway requested to return to the airport. Witnesses reported the engine sputtering but the plane did not make it back to the airport, and crashed in the residence.

    One person was in the house when the accident occurred and she was able to climb through a bedroom window to safety. She is being treated at University of Mississippi Medical Center.

    The plane belonged to Roger and Michele Latham, but Latham and his wife and daughter were not aboard. The fatalities included Latham’s flight instructor John Edward Tilton Jr.and two passengers en route to the FAA safety conference.

    Possible Suicide Crash in ultralight in Baru Rumania

    Where: Baru Romania

    Who: pilot
    Why: The ultralight took off from Deva airport, and crashed 60 kilometers away in rough topography between Pui and Baru Mare. The plane was loaned by the owner, Mircea Chira, to a businessman with more than 200 flight hours.

    The wreckage was found in a a rocky and forested area in Hunedoara county.

    The 47-year-old German pilot who lived in the Romanian town of Orastie apparently sent a farewell letter which some have interpreted as a suicide note.

    Smoking Tiger Moth makes Emergency Landing at Jandakot

    What: private Tiger Moth
    Where: Jandakot Airport Australia
    When: Dec 14, 2012, 10:15 a.m.
    Who: pilot and passenger
    Why: The flight was en route when smoke started coming from the engine. The smoke was seen at 10: 15.

    Shortly later, the pilot made a safe landing at Jandakot Airport Australia with four crews of emergency services standing by.

    The smoke seemed to originate from an oil leak.

    Rossiya Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Cabin Pressure Issue

    Rossiya Airlines flight SU-6551 had to return and make an emergency landing in Moscow, Russia, on January 24th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane took off for Sochi, Russia, but had to return shortly afterwards after the crew received a cabin pressure warning.

    The plane landed safely. All 157 people aboard remained unharmed.

    Edelweiss Air Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Zurich

    Edelweiss Air flight WK-34 had to return and make an emergency landing in Zurich, Switzerland, on October 18th.

    The Airbus A330-300 plane took off for Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, but had to turn back after the crew noticed issues with the landing gear.

    The plane landed back safely. There were two hundred and fifty-seven passengers and eleven crew members aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.

    Easter Sunday Emergency Landing

    What: Southwest Airlines flight from Orlando, Fla., to Austin
    Where: Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, Fla.
    When: April 12 2008
    Who: 104 passengers
    Why: There was no fire, but when a sensor detected an apparent problem in the cargo hold, the pilot chose to land immediately. Passengers lunched at the base’s Officer’s Club before boarding another Southwest flight which carried them to their destination.
