    What: American Airlines Boeing 777-200 en route from Dallas to Tokyo
    Where: 43 miles southeast of Narita over the Pacific
    When: Monday Oct 26 3:40 p.m.
    Who: 228 people aboard
    Why: As heavy weather ( Typhoon Lupit’s rain and strong winds) approach Japan’s east coast, the Japanese weather service announced a weather warning.

    Several (5 passengers) aboard the Tokyo jet were injured by turbulence. After landing, all 5 were taken to a Tokyo area hospital.

    Fighter Jets Intercept Vulkan Air Flight After Loss of Communication

    Vulkan Air flight VKA-143 was intercepted by Italian Air Force fighter jets on the way to Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport, Italy, on September 16th.

    The incident happened after the plane flying from Tangier, Morocco, lost communication with the ATC.

    The plane subsequently landed safely. The fighter jets returned to the base.

    EasyJet Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Amsterdam

    EasyJet flight U2-1353 made an emergency landing in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on February 8th.

    The Airbus A319-100 plane flying from Geneva, Switzerland, was descending toward Amsterdam when the crew reported hydraulic issues and entered a hold.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. There were 152 people aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.

    Aeroflot London Takeoff Interrupted with Engine Down

    What: Aeroflot Airbus A320-200 en route from London to Moscow
    Where: London
    When: Nov 15th 2011
    Who: 108 passengers
    Why: On takeoff, the plane’s right engine developed problems.

    Pilots shut down the engine and returned to the airport to make a safe landing.

    Passengers were rebooked on flights outgoing on Nov 16.

    Cessna Nails Emergency Landing on Florida Highway

    What: single engine C172 en route from Gainesville to Destin
    Where: U.S. Highway 98
    When: Monday, Nov. 8, 2010, 8 pm
    Who: Pilot Michael Dustin Phillips
    Why: While en route, the engine began running rough. The pilot diverted to Tallahassee, but did not reach the airport. The pilot had to make an emergency landing on the highway due to a “mechanical failure” using car headlights to orient the landing. The plane model is described as “172, P172, R172, Skyhawk, Hawk XP, Cutla”

    Norwegian Air Shuttle Plane Returns to Norway

    Norwegian AirNorwegian Air Shuttle flight DY-136 had to return and make an emergency landing in Stavanger, Norway, on November 12th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane that took off for Las Palmas, Spain, blew a tire during take off, prompting the crew to turn back.

    The plane landed uneventfully. There were 185 people aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.
