    Where: about 50 km before reaching its destination Grande Cache, Alta
    When: 6 p.m. Friday night. (rescue saturday Jan 31) ,
    Who: Passenger and pilot are recovering.
    Why: The crash is under investigation; it is thought that the helicopter flipped and slammed into a mountain. The pilot has a punctured lung and other injuries; and was transported to Grande Prairie. Passenger was uninjured.

    LAN Airlines Flight Returns to Los Angeles due to Smokey Cabin

    LAN airlinesLAN Airlines flight 601 returned and made an emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport, California, on the afternoon of June 21.

    The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, en-route to Lima, Peru had to return after smoke was noticed in the cabin. Authorities said the smoke was due to a defective food warmer in the kitchen.

    The plane, carrying around 230 passengers and 17 crew members, landed safely and everyone aboard remained unhurt.

    The passengers were accommodated in another flight next day.

    2 Dead in Central Japan Helicopter Crash

    fireA helicopter crashed into a mountain forest in Kihoku, Mie Prefecture, Japan, at around 10:50 a.m. on March 6.

    Authorities believe the 22-seater helicopter touched a power cable, sparking fire in around 200 to 300 square meters forest area.

    Both occupants of the aircraft were killed in the accident. They were identified as 53-year-old Captain Yoshifumi and 41-year-old Yuki Fujimoto.

    The incident is under investigation.

    Crop-Dusting Plane Crashes in Georgia; Pilot Killed

    A crop-dusting plane crashed in a field in Nashville, Berrien County, Georgia, on September 16th.

    The pilot, who was the only person onboard, was killed in the crash.

    The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

    Southwest Emergency Landing in Phoenix

    What: Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 en route from El Paso to Phoenix
    Where: Phoenix
    When: Jun 30th 2011, 9:33 pm
    Who: 139 aboard
    Why: On approach to Phoenix, the pilot declared emergency and shut down an engine when one of the engines failed. Some of the systems operating were backup systems. Details about the engine issues were not released but Southwest said there was an “issue with engine exhaust.”

    The plane made a safe landing at 9:33 with emergency services on standby, but taxied to the gate, and did not need towing.

    Maintenance is examining the plane.

    United Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Newark, NJ

    United Airlines flight UA-14 made an emergency landing in Newark, New Jersey, on June 1st.

    The Boeing 767-300 plane flying from Honolulu, Hawaii, was descending toward Newark when the crew requested emergency assistance due to smoke in the cockpit.

    The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.
