    Plane and Helicopter Collide Mid-Air in Germany; 4 Dead

    A helicopter and a small plane collided mid-air in Philippsburg, Germany, on January 23rd.

    Authorities said four people were killed in the crash, including two occupants of the plane and two helicopter pilots.

    The cause of crash is being investigated.

    Ace Lost At Sea

    What: ACE Alaska Central Express Air Cargo Beech 1900C en route from Sand Point to Anchorage
    Where: Sand Point Alaska
    When: Jan 22nd 2010
    Who: 2 crew
    Why: While en route, the flight lost altitude, and then lost communication. It hit the sea around midnight.

    A search party has been formed. Some wreckage has been found near Egg Island.

    ACE Air Cargo has joined the search for our Beech 1900 aircraft, that disappeared shortly after departing Sand Point, Alaska with two pilots on board yesterday evening. At this time, we are focused on the welfare of our pilots and their families and will be releasing no further information at this time. We ask that the media respect the privacy of our employees and their families at this time. More information will be released as it becomes available.

    Medellin Colombia: American Airlines Boeing’s Miraculous Safe Landing

    What: Fully fueled American Airlines Boeing 737 flight 924 en route from Rionegro to to Miami
    Where: emergency landing at Rionegro airport (Jose Maria Cordoba) near Medellín
    When: 9:50 AM flight
    Who: 148 passengers
    Why: Passengers heard an explosion, after which the crew was concerned that the full plane would not make it over the mountains. They turned back with a fire in one engine, and the crippled plane not climbing as it should.

    The plane circled the airport for half of an hour prior to the successful emergency landing. Though successful, the landing was not uneventful as the heat from braking actually fused the brakes, leaving the plane immobile on the runway. The passengers were successfully deplaned on site via stairs and ported from the runway to the terminal by bus.

    No cause has been given for the initial engine problem, but the American Airlines crew is to be commended for a near-miraculous safe-guardianship of the welfare of the passengers.

    The plane was carrying thousands of pounds of fuel.

    Fed Ex Crash in Wichita

    What: Federal Express turboprop Cessna Caravan
    Where: West 47th Street South, Wichita Mid-Continent Airport
    When: Nov. 6, 2012
    Who: 1 fatality
    Why: Pilot Brian Quinn had taken off from Wichita Mid-Continent Airport but turned back, declaring Mayday, after developing engine trouble, with “oil on the windshield.”

    The pilot landed in a grass field, crossed it and struck a tree row two miles south of the airport.

    He died at the scene. Sedgwick County and Wichita emergency workers responded. The accident is under investigation.

    U.S. Military Helicopter Crashes in Iraq; 7 Dead

    A U.S. military helicopter crashed in Anbar province of Iraq, on March 16th.

    The HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter was carrying seven personnel when it went down near the city of al-Qaim.

    All seven people aboard were killed in the crash.

    The incident is being investigated.

    3 Killed in Florida Plane Crash

    piperlausanneA small plane crashed in Florida’s Panhandle area, near Fountain, on the morning of May 25, killing three people on the spot. The plane caught fire after crashing on a rural road.

    The Bay County Sheriff’s Office said that the pilot was rushed to a local hospital in “extremely critical condition”.
    The names of the peopled killed or the pilot have not yet been released.

    According to FAA spokesperson, Kathleen Bergen, the crashed airplane was a Piper PA 28.

    The NTSB and FAA are investigating the cause of crash.
