    Mexico: Helicopter Crash Kills Businessman and Pilots


    What: Eolo AgustaWestland AW109SP
    Where: Cerro Alpino, Mexico
    When: July 28, 2012, 23:40
    Who: 3 aboard, 3 fatalities
    Why: The businessman and son of Fidel Herrera left the town of Atlacomulco after a meal with the former governor of the State of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto and died in a chopper crash.

    Toluca Airport lost contact with the helicopter an hour prior to the accident.

    The pilot Miguel Angel Rodriguez Lopez, co-pilot Rodolfo Caballero and the passenger, Armando Hinojosa-Garcia, were killed in the town of Juquipilco when the Augusta 109 chopper they were in crashed close to the Jiquipilco-Temoaya road, in the State of Mexico, North of Mexico City.

    Search patrols located the wreckage early Sunday morning in a place known as “Hill of Alpine”

    A Civil Aeronautics investigation is underway.

    Brazil Supreme Court Judge Overseeing Corruption Probe Killed in Plane Crash

    A small plane crashed in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on January 19th.

    The plane had taken off from Sao Paulo shortly before it went down near the coastal town of Paraty.

    The plane was carrying 3 people, including Brazilian supreme court Justice Teori Zavasck. All of them were killed in the crash.

    Justice Zavasck was overseeing an investigation into a billion-dollar bribery scandal involving a group of elected officials.

    Temora Crash Kills Aerobics Crash

    Where: Temora Airport New South Wales Riverina
    When: 10:30am
    Who: Pilot Tom Moon national aerobatics champion
    Why: After an emergency call was made from Airport Road, Temora, the plane caught fire after crashing near the Aviation Museum.

    Multiple Causes Lead to Crashes

    We have said this all along–that it takes more than one catastrophic coincidence to take down a plane. And here we are supported now by the latest Polish investigation into the crash of the Polish Presidential plane.

    In the case of that crash, the weather was bad. There was no possibility of safe landing. The investigation does not stop there. It goes on to cite a dozen mistakes, safety violations which led to the crash, including crew training, flight prep and rule violations.

    Where: Smolensk
    When: Apr 10th 2010
    Who: 88 passengers and 8 crew
    Why: On approach to Smolensk North Airport in dense fog, the plane impacted a forest, coming to rest short of the runway. There are conflicting reports leading up to the decision to land at Smolensk (versus Minsk or Moscow), holding pattern, the number of approaches.

    Everyone aboard the flight was lost, including Polish President Lech Kaczynski, his wife Maria, the national bank president, deputy foreign minister, army chaplain, head of the National Security Office, deputy parliament speaker, Olympic Committee head, civil rights commissioner and at least two presidential aides and three lawmakers.

    Nigerian Military Helicopter Crashed in Yola; 3 Killed

    helicopterA Nigerian military helicopter crashed near a university in Yola, the capital of Adamawa State of Nigeria, at around 10 p.m. on November 13.

    According to a statement released by the defense headquarters, “At about 2200hours yesterday, November 13, 2014, a ground attack helicopter on an armed patrol crashed around the Federal University of Technology Yola, Adamawa State.”

    All three crew members aboard were killed in the crash.

    The statement said, “Rescue party worked throughout the night to preserve the wreckage of the aircraft and scene of the accident for proper investigation to be carried out. Further details would be made known later.”

    What: single engine Cessna 150 M en route from Harlingen.
    Where: Los Fresnos TX
    When: April 29 2010
    Who: Pilot
    Why: The pilot is a flight instructor who has just bought the Cessna involved. En route, he experienced engine trouble (in-flight engine power loss) and landed safely in a sorghum field in Los Fresnos with no injury and no plane damage reported.
