A small plane crashed in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee, on December 26th.
The Cessna 182 plane was heading to Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge Airport, Sevierville, Tennessee, when it went down.
There were 3 people aboard at the time, including Kim Smith, 42, David Starling, 41, and Hunter Starling, 8. All of them were killed in the crash. They were from Bradford County, Florida.

A PHI Air Medical helicopter had to make an emergency landing at West Mockingbird Lane and Irving Boulevard in Dallas, Texas, on October 26th.
The aircraft was on its way to pick up a patient when the pilot reported a possible fuel leak and decided to make an emergency landing.
The helicopter landed safely. No injuries were reported.
“We dispatched a different aircraft to pick up the specialized maternal team and complete the transport… We are grateful that the appropriate protocols were followed and all are safe”, PHI Air Medical said in statement.

What: AMI 46′ Brigata Aerea Lockeed C-130J Hercules Where: Le Rene, near Coltano Italy When: Nov 23, 2009 Who: 5 airmen (two pilots and three officers) Why: While en route, the Lockeed C-130J Hercules crashed on the railway line Pisa-Collesalvetti-Cecina, killing all aboard the plane.
The crew was from the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa, out practicing the “touch and go” maneuver. The plane had touched and was gaining altitude when it veered to the right and crashed.
Although the plane crashed on the train tracks in a widespread area, train traffic was not disrupted.
The Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi expressed condolences to the families of the five victims.

A military helicopter carrying ten persons crashed on the runway of an airbase in Nimibia’s Grootfontein this Friday.
Xinhua, the spokesperson of the Namibian Ministry of Defense confirmed that the accident occurred just after the helicopter took off. Four people were killed while six others were injured. The injured were rushed to Windhoek for medical care.
The cause of the accident is not known at the moment.

On Jan 13, 2013, a private plane with two aboard taking off from Roanoke Island crashed into the water on its second approach back to the airport.
ATC made contact with the plane before it came down with the pilot making no indication of problems.
The female passenger was rescued from the water and taken to Outer Banks Hospital. The coast guard is searching for the pilot.
The plane went down between 11 and 11:15 a.m and the weather was hazy with rolling periods of fog. Visibility on the ground was less than 30 feet.
The woman was located in the water, found by rescuers who followed her screams. They were unaware that a plane had crashed.
Hatteras Island and other dive teams were searching for the Pilot in limited shifts due to the water temperature, looking from Umstead to Virginia Dare bridges. Agencies cooperating in the search included Dare County Emergency Management, Dare County EMS, Roanoke Island Volunteer Fire Department, Chicamacomico Volunteer Fire Department, Nags Head Fire and Rescue, NC Highway Patrol, NC Marine Patrol and NC Wildlife.
What: Local carrier FGUPKAP twin-engine Antonov An-28 en route from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Yelizovo to Palana Where: Palana village, Russia When: Sept 12, 2012 12:28 p.m. Who: 12 passengers, 2 crew, ten fatalities Why: The plane was scheduled to land in Palana village, but lost contact with ATC and crashed in a cedar forest on a hill 10 kilometers away from the intended landing site. A thirteen year old boy who survived is now comatose. The three other survivors are in critical condition.
A recovery helicopter landed as close as possible to the wreckage; but rescue personnel had to navigate through rough topography to reach the wounded.
Originally nine bodies were found, and five injured people, but one child died of injuries.
FGUPKAP, the carrier is owned by the state. Minister of Health Tatiana Lemeshko Kamchatka participated in a conference regarding the crash, and reported on the status of the 4 surviving passengers. The ministry is sending September rescue personnel and doctors to Palana on September 13.
Weather conditions, human error or technical malfunction may be the cause. Officials announced that the families of the fatalities will be getting 200,000 rubles in compensation.
