    Where: Cherry Capital Airport, Traverse City Michigan

    Why: During a training exercise, the pilot failed an attempted “touch and go.” The plane sustained minor damage. There’s no report of pilot injury.

    Providence-Bound Southwest Airlines Plane Suffers Lightning Strike

    Southwest Airlines flight WN-1498 suffered a lightning strike near Providence, Rhode Island, on February 15th.

    The incident happened when the Boeing 737-800 plane flying from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was descending toward Providence.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Via Airlines Flight Diverts to Pittsburgh due to Loss of Cabin Pressure

    Via Airlines flight VC-841 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on December 29th.

    The plane heading from LaGuardia Airport, New York, to Indianapolis, Indiana, was diverted due to loss of cabin pressure.

    The plane, carrying Butler University’s Basketball Team, landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Germania Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Faro

    Germania flight ST-4911 had to return and make an emergency landing in Faro, Portugal, on June 26th.

    The Airbus A319-100 plane took off for Berlin, Germany, but had to turn back after heavy smoke was noticed in the cabin.

    The plane landed safely. All ninety-four passengers and five crew members remained unharmed.

    Air Peace Flight Returns to Port Harcourt, Nigeria after Smoke Indication

    air peaceAir Peace flight 4P-7191 had to return and make an emergency landing at Port Harcourt International Airport in Nigeria, on March 12th.

    The plane took off for Lagos, Nigeria, but had to return shortly afterwards due to a smoke detector indication.

    The Boeing 737-500 plane landed safely. No injuries were reported.

    The airline said the smoke indication turned out to be false.

    Emergency Warning leads to Delta Diversion to Raleigh-Durham

    Delta Canadair Regional Jet 700 flight 6194, normally a two hour direct flight from Charleston to LaGuardia made an emergency landing at 9:15 at Raleigh-Durham International Airport after a warning indicator went off in the cockpit.

    What kind of warning caused the emergency diversion has not yet been released.

    Passengers exited the plane and transferred to another. The flight arrived in New York at 11:55 a.m.
