    Bird-Hit UPS Plane Makes Safe Landing in Rockford, IL

    UPS flight 5X-555 made a safe landing following a bird strike near Rockford, Illinois, on October 9th.

    The Boeing 757-200 plane flying from Minneapolis, Minnesota, was on approach to Rockford when a bird hit it.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    8 Seriously Injured as UN Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing in Sudan

    HelicopterA helicopter, working for the UN-AN peacekeeping mission in Darfur, made an emergency landing in Saraf Omra, North Darfur, Sudan, on August 16.

    The incident happened when the helicopter was flying from El Fasher, North Darfur. According to a spokesperson “A UNAMID helicopter, an Mi-8, carrying 18 passengers and three crew on board made an emergency landing approximately 100 metres” (yards) from the helipad at a base belonging to the mission at Saraf Omra in North Darfur.”

    Eight people sustained serious injuries in the incident while others sustained minor injuries. They were shifted to Saraf Omra base for medical aid.

    The cause of emergency landing is not clear at the moment.

    Dana Air Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Lagos

    Dana Air flight 9J-343 had to return and make an emergency landing in Lagos, Nigeria, on April 21st.

    The plane took off for Port Harcourt, Nigeria, but had to return shortly afterwards due to a bird strike.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained safe.

    Where: Zurich
    When: Oct 31st 2010
    Who: 194 passengers
    Why: After takeoff, the plane suffered a bird strike.

    The pilot returned to Zurich where they made a safe landing. The plane was taken out of service to be inspected for damage, and passengers were provided alternative transportation. No description of the amount of damage or the unfortunate bird has been provided.

    What: Delta Airlines Boeing 757-200 en route from Bogota Colombia to Atlanta GA
    Where: Bogota
    When: Dec 2nd 2009
    Who: 115 passengers and 6 crew
    Why: Half an hour into the flight, the outer pane of the copilot’s windshield window cracked. The plane returned to the airport in Bogota and made a safe landing.

    Batavia Lands Flat in Pekanbaru

    What: Batavia Boeing 737-400 en route from Jakarta to Pekanbaru
    Where: Pekanbaru Airport
    When: Aug 15 2011
    Why: On landing at Pekanbaru, the plane blew out its tires.

    Hard landing? Fast landing? We do not know. We do know the plane had to be towed off the runway. Injuries were not reported.
