What: Skywork Airlines Dornier Do-328-100 en route from Bern to Vienna
Where: Zurich
When: Mar 14th 2012
Why: While en route, the plane developed a problem with cabin pressure. The crew had perform a descent to safe levels.
Pilots returned to Bern where they made a safe landing.

What: Skybolt en route from Altus/Quartz Mountain Regional Airport
Where: Oklahoma
When: Nov 8 2009
Who: 2 fatalities: pilot Robert N. Munson and passenger Zachary james Cook
Why: Shortly after takeoff, the plane crashed and burned in a field a mile and a half from the airport. Both occupants were killed.
The FAA is investigating.

What: KLM Embraer ERJ-190 en route from Amsterdam to Birmingham
Where: Amsterdam
When: Apr 21st 2012
Why: While en route, a leak in the right engine was detected. Pilots shut down the affected engine and returned to Amsterdam where they made a safe landing.
KLM Cityhopper received delivery of the plane on April 1 2010. It has CF34-10E6 engines. (GE)

What: Thomas Cook Boeing 757-300 en route from Glasgow to Antalya
Where: London
When: Feb 15th 2012
Why: The flight had taken off normally from Glasgow, but while en route, the weather radar system failed.
The crew of flight MT-3614 notified London and were able to divert to Gatwick where they made a safe landing.
One might say it was an overabundance of caution because weather radar might not be considered essential–but considering the distance covered and potential conditions en route and on landing in Antalya, it seems their caution was, in my opinion at least, justified.
An Allegiant Air plane had to make an emergency landing at Orlando Sanford International Airport, Florida, on July 20.
The plane took off from Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport, Florida and was en-route to Memphis, Tennessee when a maintenance issue prompted the pilot to declare emergency.
The plane landed uneventfully. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.
The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

What: Cathay Pacific Boeing 747-400 en route from Hong Kong China to Sapporo Japan
Where: Fukuoka
When: Jul 19th 2009
Who: 398 on board
Why: After smoke filled the cabin, the flight diverted to Fukuoka Japan. The smoke was attributed to an air conditioning leak which was repaired so that the flight was continued less than four hours later.

Where: Hotan

Who: 9 crew, 92 passengers
Why: Right after takeoff, six passengers on the flight announced a hijacking.
Apparently three were in the front of the plane, and three were in the back.
Passengers and Sky Marshals subdued the hijackers.
Two flight police officers were seriously injured. Two attendants and seven passengers were slightly injured. The six who attempted to hijack the flight were taken into police custody when the captain returned to the airport within sixteen minutes of takeoff.
