Pilot Killed as Small Plane Crashed Near Big Bear Lake

A small plane went down in the Grout Bay campground located along the Big Bear Lake, California, before 11 a.m. on October 20.

The accident happened after the aircraft took off from Big Bear City Airport.

The pilot, who was the only one aboard, was killed at the spot. His identity has not yet been disclosed.

According to the FAA records, the experimental, fixed-wing, single-engine Sonnex aircraft was registered to Steve M. Morris of Bayside, Humboldt County.

The FAA, the NTSB and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department are looking into the cause of crash.

Single-Engine Plane Hits a Truck on Pyramid Highway

MustangA P-51 Mustang single engine plane which took off from Reno-Stead Airport and was en route to South Dakota crashed on Pyramid Highway just north of Spanish Springs in Nevada at around 8 a.m. on July 26.

The accident happened after an experimental Roscher built Thunder Mustang ‘Miss Picabo’ experienced mechanical failure and its engine stopped suddenly. The pilot and the co-pilot then decided to make emergency landing at Pyramid Highway and eventually crashed into a truck travelling northbound with at least 2 people aboard.

The aircraft caught fire after the crash. However, the pilot and the co-pilot managed to get out of it in just minutes. No major injuries were reported except for some scratches from broken glass.

Recalling the accident, the Pilot Fred Roscher of Cupertino said, “The plane was flying, and then, all of a sudden the engine just died….. We touched down and immediately hit him [the truck]… A couple minutes later, the plane caught fire and was completely consumed.”

Two lane Pyramid Lake Road remained closed for six hours.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the mechanical failure of the aircraft.

Small Plane Lands in Emergency in a Houston Parking Lot

small planeA single-propeller aircraft made an emergency landing in the parking lot of an oilfield service company located in northwest Houston, Texas.

According to the Houston Fire Department, they were called to the parking lot of TAM International, near Pinemont west of Highway 290, shortly after 7 a.m. on June 20.

The small, red-colored Champion Sportster landed without any damage to the nearby parked cars, although its right tire was damaged during the emergency landing. The landing gear collapsed during an apparently intentional ground-loop.

Officials confirmed that there were two people aboard at the time of the accident. HPD Officer Tray Riley said, “They’re very thankful to be uninjured and to be able to put that aircraft down without it flipping over, without injuring anyone else in the parking lot.”

The pilot maintained that the plane lost power just after taking off from Weiser Airpark, Cypress.

The initial investigation confirmed that the plane’s engine failed. The FAA is investigating the cause of the engine failure.

Experimental Plane Lands in Emergency in Walcott

A 1994 experimental aircraft owned by Raging Thermal Sky Sports LLC, and known as “Meyer Goat” made a safe emergency landing at the Eagle Springs Golf Club located in Walcott, Colorado after 11 a.m. on June 16.

The decision to make an emergency landing was made after the small aircraft lost oil pressure during the flight.

The pilot and passenger remained unharmed. Their identities have not yet been disclosed by the authorities. The plane sustained minor damage after landing in high winds while en route from Golden to Boulder County. The plane landed on the golf course’s 547-yard par 5 second fairway.

The Eagle County Sheriff’s Office, Eagle County Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting, Greater Eagle Fire Protection District, Eagle River Fire Protection District and Eagle County Paramedic Services responded to the call.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.

Pilot Killed in a Small Plane Crash in Highlands Ranch, Co

HighlandA SONERAI II LT Experimental plane flying out of Centennial Airport crashed in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, at about 3pm on March 29.

After the pilot suffered difficulty maintaining control, the plane went down in flames in a nose dive away from populated areas.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the pilot was killed in the incident.

The workers at a nearby car wash centre declared the pilot to be a hero as he apparently tried to steer the plane away from local shops and road, before it finally crashed.

Experimental Crash in Brazil kills Deputy Mayor

A small plane, an INPAER Explorer#PR-ZAL with three aboard was en route from Campos dos Amarais, Campinas to London but disappeared from radar while talking to ATC in Pirassununga Brazil at about ten on January 23rd. The experimental plane was registered but not certified, and barred from flying over populated areas.

The Brazilian Air Force, Botucatu and São Manuel police forces were searching with a C-105 Amazonas, a H1 and an Eagle Helicopter, and found the remains of the passengers in dense forest, in a rugged area near Monte Alegre.

The Squad of Campo Grande rescue team is on the scene.

Locals who heard the failing engine, a roar and saw a flash of light in the woods notified authorities.

The remains have been identified as:
-Alderman and Deputy Mayor of Suzano (SP) Jessé Almeida,
-Edson Geraldino, identified as owner of the plane.

The identity of the third party, Rubens Geraldino, has not been confirmed by the family. The passengers (uncle and nephew) were from Mogi das Cruzes, SP, Brazil.
