    Mooney M20C Lands at Island Road and Sheridan Street

    What: 1965 Mooney M20C en route from Baldwin County Georgia to North Perry Airport, Pembroke Pines
    Where: Sheridan Street in Cooper City Florida
    When: May 19, 2012
    Who: Pilot and passenger
    Why: The pilot who experienced engine trouble managed to force-land on Sheridan street, only clipping his wings on the tree-lined street. No injuries were reported but traffic was shut down on the street for a while.

    The FAA is investigating.

    Update on South Sudan Crash that Killed 40 on the Banks of the White Nile.

    On Wednesday November 4, an Antonov 12 cargo plane leased from Asia Airways (registered EY-406) impacting terrain in the South Sudan. The flight was en route from Juba Airport, South Sudan to Paloich Airport, South Sudan. Three people survived the crash. There were forty fatalities, many of which were on the ground. However, this was a cargo flight, not supposed to have passengers, and the number of passengers may have been more than reported according to officials. The recorded number of those aboard, five crew, and seven passengers, has not been verified.

    The accident occurred just after the cargo flight had taken off from runway 13 at Juba Airport. It impacted near the White Nile river. The site has been secured, and the bodies are being recovered. Plans are underway to recover the black boxes.

    The crew was made up of five Armenians and one Russian. Six passengers were South Sudanese. There may have been one additional foreign passenger, but that information is unclear.

    Agricultural Embraer Crashes in Brazil


    On January 5, 2013, a privately owned Embraer EMB Ipanema with only the pilot aboard was making an agricultural pass and spraying crops in Lucas do Rio Verde MT Brazil.

    While cropdusting, the plane collided with a highway sign and the pilot lost control. Engine problems may have also been involved.

    THe pilot’s plane struck a pole then impacted the field of soybeans, instantly killing the pilot, Rubens Fritsch. The plane is a total loss. (See photo)

    His body was recovered by the firefighters who responded to the call at 11:00 a.m. Saturday.

    The married pilot leaves no children. He was buried in Lucas do Rio Verde.

    Gold Coast Crash Victims Found


    Volunteer Coast Guard, Volunteer Marine Rescue and Water Police searched the coast Monday and Tuesday for a missing plane.

    Pilot Alexander Rae, AKA Jimmy, was flying a Gold Coast Tiger Moth Joy Rides de Havilland DH 82 biplane off South Stadbroke Island off the coast of Queensland. His last message was “Conducting aerobatics over 3500 feet.” Jimmy was twenty-six years old, and had a reputation of being an excellent pilot. He was newly-wed to Alice, who is an equine dentist.

    Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., sonar located the plane on the seabed near the Couran Cove Resort where the passenger and pilot were subsequently found by police divers, still inside the plane. Debris from the plane had already washed up.

    The plane crashed into the water about four hundred meters from the coast on December 16. Police are looking for witnesses.

    The Tiger Moth was built in the thirties. Tiger Moth Joyrides had been in operation since 1978.

    What: Mountain Lifeflight Aerospatiale AS.350 Ecureuil en route from Renown Medical Center, Reno to Susanville, CA
    Where: 29 miles northwest of Reno, Lassen County, CA
    When: NOV 14, 2009
    Who: 3 aboard
    Why: After delivering a patient to a Reno Medical Center/hospital, the helicopter crashed and was destroyed by fire while on the way to its home base.

    Taban Air Plane’s Landing Gear Collapses in Ardabil, Iran

    Taban Air flight HH-6243 suffered a gear collapse during landing at Ardabil Airport, Iran, on March 27th.

    The Boeing 737-400 plane was coming from Mashhad, Iran, when its right hand main gear collapsed.

    There were 163 people aboard at the time; all of them remained unharmed.

    The plane sustained considerable damage.
