    American Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing at JFK Airport

    American Airlines flight AA-2229 had to divert and make an emergency landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, on May 10th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane heading from LaGuardia Airport, New York, to Orlando, Florida, was diverted due to an engine failure.

    The plane landed safely. All one hundred and fifty-six passengers and six crew members remained unharmed.

    Turkish Airlines Flight Returns to Istanbul due to Lightning Strike

    Turkish Airlines flight TK-1899 suffered a lightning strike near Sabiha Gokçen International Airport in Istanbul, Turkey, on December 6th.

    The incident happened shortly after the Boeing 737-800 plane departed for Vienna, Austria.

    The crew subsequently returned to Sabiha Gokçen Airport. Everyone aboard remained safe.

    Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva Emergency Landing

    Who: Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva
    Why: The plane landed at Cumbica air base at 1046 GMT, because a light on the pilot’s control panel indicated that the cargo compartment wasn’t properly closed. The cargo compartment was closed, but the control panel was in error. The plane took off again at 9:31 am.

    Delta Airlines Plane Makes Emergency Landing due to APU Problem

    250px-Delta_logo.svgDelta Airlines flight DL-1183 made an emergency landing in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on August 22nd.

    The plane was en-route from Norfolk, Virginia to Atlanta, Georgia, when the crew reported issues with the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) and decided to divert to Myrtle Beach for an emergency landing.

    The plane landed safely. There were 160 passengers and 6 crew members aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.

    Why: After receiving an “anti-skid fault emergency message” the flight returned to Sydney. Passengers had to wait for a replacement flight.

    Skydiving Crash Victims Awarded by Jury


    Doncasters Inc. of London is a manufacturer of aviation components. They were recently held accountable for the death of five victims of the crash of a DeHavilland DHC-6 Twin Otter, the skydiving plane which exploded at the Sullivan airport.

    Six people were killed: Melissa Berridge, 38, of St. Louis; Victoria Delacroix, 22, of London; Robert Cook, 22, of Rolla, Mo.; Rob Walsh, 44, of St. Louis; Scott Cowan, 42, of St. Louis were awarded four million each, and a portion of $28 million in punitive damages.

    David Aternoster, 35, also died in the crash but his relatives were not part of the lawsuit. Jim and Scott Cowan, owners of Quantum Leap Skydiving were piloting.

    Eight engine failures are believed to be due to a defective Doncasters part according to aviation experts, air crash investigators, metallurgists and aircraft design engineers.
