    Yak-18 Emergency Landing Underwater


    ON AUGUST 11, 2013, a Aero Park “Voskresenka” Samara-operated Yakovlev Yak-18 made an emergency landing at the Volga river. The pilot was the only one aboard and he was unhurt.

    Rescue services responding included Main Directorate of MOE Russia in Samara region: 18 people, 6 pieces of equipment; Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations: 7 people and 3 vehicles.

    Diving operations were engaged to help retrieve the plane. The cause of the plane’s engine failure has not been determined.

    What: UTAir/Tulpar Airlines Yakovlev Yak-42 en route from Moscow Vnukovo to Volgograd with 57 passengers and 7 crew
    When: Dec 10th 2011
    Who: 57 passengers and 7 crew
    Why: While en route, the Yak developed engine problems in the left engine.

    The crew shut down the engine (idled) and made a safe landing in Volgograd.

    Allegiant Air Plane Overruns Runway at Sioux Falls Regional Airport

    Allegiant Air flight G4-456 overran the end of the runway during landing at Sioux Falls Regional Airport, South Dakota, on April 8th.

    The incident happened when the plane was coming from Las Vegas, Nevada.

    All one hundred and fifty-five passengers and six crew members remained unharmed.

    Air Asia Plane Overruns Runway at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport

    Air Asia flight AK-9700 overran the end of the runway upon landing at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Malaysia, on November 30th.

    The incident happened when the Airbus A320-200 plane was coming from Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Malaysia.

    There were four crew members aboard at the time; none of them were injured.

    Ural Airbus Overruns Iced Runway

    What: Ural Airlines Airbus A321-200 en route from Dubai (United Arab Emirates) to Ekaterinburg (Russia)
    Where: Ekaterinburg
    When: Nov 6 2010 at 4:25
    Who: 143 passengers and 8 crew
    Why: While landing at Ekaterinburg while the runway was covered in ice, and although ATC informed the “that the runway condition was good and permitted a safe landing,” the plane did not respond to proper braking and overran the runway.

    Russian investigators are investigating.

    Apparently Russian airport crews don’t bother to salt, plow or otherwise make their runways more safe. Or maybe this was just a particularly lazy crew.

    SkyJet Plane Overruns Runway at Busuanga Airport, Philippines

    SkyJet Airlines flight M8-717 overran the end of the runway at Busuanga Airport, Philippines, on June 8th.

    The incident happened when the plane was coming from Manila, Philippines.

    The plane came to stop on soft ground.

    All eighty passengers and six crew members remained uninjured.
