    Helicopter Crashes in Israel

    What: Tamir Airways Robinson R44 en route from Tel Aviv Sde Dov airfield
    Where: Sironit beach in Netanya, Israel
    When: Nov 24, 2009
    Who: 4 on board, the , Yoav Tamir from Tel Aviv and Ran Lapid from Nes Tziona, Hadar Shavit, 39, from the town of Lapid and a tourist from the UK.
    Why: The investigation is considering a technical failure suspected to have caused the fatal accident and the possibility that the propeller broke in mid flight.

    Pilot Ran Lapid, was an experienced helicopter pilot but human error is not ruled out as a cause.

    Witnesses heard “an unusual noise” prior to the helicopter landing in the water and “saw it slowly descend toward the water…flip 90 degrees, the propeller hit the water and broke off and the helicopter dove into the water.”

    There were no survivors but all the remains have been found.

    What: single engine turboprop( Pilatus PC-12) owned by Eagle Cap Leasing en route from Oroville, Calif. (Brown Field Municipal airport in San Diego to Vacaville, Calif. to Oroville ) to Bozeman
    Where: On approach to the Butte airport
    When: Sunday March 22
    Who: 17 Passengers included up to a dozen kids
    Why: Prior to the crash, the pilot diverted from Butte to Bozeman but 500 feet from the airport, a witness said the plane made a number of sharp turns and nosedived into the ground. Seventeen bodies have been recovered, (12 is the upper limit) several more than should be boarded on the type of plane. The cause of the crash is under investigation.Japanese Video

    Helicopter Crash Kills Experienced Pilot in New Zealand

    HelicopterA Hughes 500E helicopter crashed on Koatanui Rd in Brunswick, northwest of Wanganui, New Zealand, at around 9:30 a.m. on October 28.

    The helicopter was being used to spray farmland near the State Highway 3 at Kai Iwi, when it crashed.

    The pilot of the helicopter, identified as Peter William Robb, 56, was killed at the scene. According to the executive officer of the New Zealand Helicopter Association, John Sinclair, he was a “very experienced pilot, well-respected in the industry”.

    The CAA is investigating the cause of crash.

    Lion Air Crash in Indonesia

    What: Lion Air flight McDonnell-Douglas en route from Solo City Java Indonesia
    Where: Adi Sumaro Airport
    When: November 30, 2004
    Who: The captain, 1 flight attendant, and 23 passengers were fatally injured; the first officer, 2 flight attendants and 56 passengers were seriously injured; and 84 passengers had minor or no injury
    Why: On November 30, 2004, at 1814 Jakarta time, a McDonnell-Douglas MD-82 Lion Air flight 538, was substantially damaged when it overran runway 26 at Adi Sumaro Airport(SOC), Solo City, Central Java, Indonesia. The captain, 1 flight attendant, and 23 passengers were fatally injured; the first officer, 2 flight attendants and 56 passengers were seriously injured; and 84 passengers received either minor injuries or were not injured. Night visual meteorological conditions prevailed; however, rain showers were in the area, and the runway was wet. The flight originated at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. After landing, it continued off the departure end of the runway and impacted the concrete base of a localizer array.

    TV Star, Co-Pilot Killed in Tragic Plane Crash in Montana

    A Cessna 182 crashed on the side of Interstate 90 while trying to land at Rock Creek Airstrip, Missoula County, Montana, on August 28th.

    The plane was carrying History Channel star Darrell Ward and his co-pilot at the time.

    Ward was on his way to begin filming a documentary about the recovery of plane wreckage.

    Both people aboard lost their lives.

    The crash remains under investigation.

    Indian Chopper Crashes in Bad Weather

    What: Indian Air Force HAL Chetak/Alouette III en route from Kalaikunda to Bagdoghra
    Where: Sundarpahari area, Godda district, Jharkhand state
    When: Sept 11 2010
    Who: 3 aboard, 3 fatalities
    Why: While en route in bad weather, the flight crashed in Sundarpahari near Sinharsi air base. Two pilots and a co pilot were killed. Weather is assumed to be the cause, but the IAF has ordered an inquiry .
