A couple of acrobatic planes collided in an Alba Adriatica airshow maneuver and crashed into the sea. One pilot was transported to the hospital. The other pilot, Marco Ricci, lost a wing and could not exit his plane, and died. The plane was located four meters underwater, upside down and closed. Divers tried lifting it with air balloons. The National Agency for Flight Safety (ANSV) has opened an investigation. One plane was Van’s RV-7 # I-Amel; the other was Van’s RV-8 with #I-Lovi.

Why: In Beijing, five crew members were in a police helicopter returning from a drill when it crashed into a reservoir. One crew member was rescued.
The drill occurred in a mountainous region of Miyun County that ended at 9:12 a m.
Air Tanker Crashed Fighting Yosemite Wildfire; Pilot Killed
An air tanker, belonging to California Fire Department, crashed while fighting the Dog Rock Fire near Arch Rock in Yosemite National Park, northern California, on October 7.
The Cal fire department confirmed that the single-seater S-2T aircraft went down at around 4:26 p.m. near an entrance to the Yosemite National Park.
The pilot of the air tanker was killed in the accident. He was later identified as Geoffrey “Craig” Hunt, 62, of San Jose.
Chief Ken Pimlott, Cal Fire director said, “We continue to mourn the tragic loss of Craig…We know wildland firefighting is an inherently dangerous job, but Craig made the ultimate sacrifice.”

What: Arch Air Medical Services helicopter
Where: St. Louis Downtown Airport.
When: engines failed at 2:35 p.m. Monday
Why: While the helicopter was transporting a patient, it had an emergency, and made a landing at the St. Louis Downtown Airport. Patient was transported to destination by other means.
Planes Carrying Parachutists Collide over Western Slovakia; 7 Killed, 31 Injured
Two L-410 turbo-prop aircrafts collided mid-air near Cerveny Kamen village of western Slovakia, on August 20th.
The accident happened when the planes were carrying 34 parachutists who were rehearsing for an air show in Slavnica.
Seven people, including 3 parachutists and 4 pilots, were killed in the crash while 31 parachutists managed to survive by jumping off the planes.
The cause of collision is being investigated.
CNPC oil Helicopter Crashes in Tenere Desert, Nigeria
What: helicopter en route to Fachi
Where: Tenere desert, Nigeria
When: April 9 2012
Who: 6 fatalities
Why: The helicopter chartered by CNPC oil was lost over the Tenere desert.
The wreckage was found by the military. The occupants (two french crew, four chinese passengers) died in the crash. CNPC has not released a public statement.
