    Pilot Killed after Helicopter Crashes in the Woodlands, Texas

    HelicopterA helicopter crashed in the back yard of a house in the Woodlands, Texas, at around 1 p.m. on January 16.

    Authorities said the sole occupant of orange Safari Aero Sport Helicopter was killed in the crash. He was identified as Michael Gene Mims, 51, of Conroe. He was a businessman and deacon at the St. Anthony Padua Catholic Church.

    No one on the ground was injured.

    The NTSB and the FAA are trying to determine the cause of crash.

    Small Plane Crashed in South Africa; Three Killed

    A small plane crashed in Benoni, east of Johannesburg, South Africa, on February 2nd.

    Authorities said the Piper PA-32 plane took off from Brakpan Airfield, and was heading to Limpopo Province when it crashed into shacks in Watville.

    There were three people aboard at the time, including the pilot and two Austrian tourists, all of them were killed in the crash.

    The cause of crash is being investigated.

    Rogue Phones prompt American Eagle and Air France Diversions

    What: American Eagle Canadair CRJ-700 en route from Nashville, TN to New York, NY
    Where: Raleigh Durham
    When: Jan 3rd 2012
    Who: n/a
    Why: Two phones found in the lavatory prompted the pilot to divert to Raleigh Durham.

    A passenger who claimed the phones later was removed from the plane and taken custody by the FBI.

    What: Air France Boeing 777-200 en route from Houston,TX to Paris
    Where: Houston
    When: Jan 3rd 2012
    Who: 228 passengers and 15 crew
    Why: While en route from Houston, a phone was found aboard. Pilots returned to Houston, where the flight underwent a security check.

    The flight landed safely in Paris after a five hour delay.

    2 Injured after a Light Plane Crashed in NSW

    A light plane made a crash landing in scrub land, around 40km south of Narrabri, New South Wales, Australia.

    The incident happened at about 4:30 p.m. on June 12.

    According to the police, they were informed that the emergency landing occurred due to suspected engine failure.

    The plane was carrying 2 people at the time of crash; both of them were injured. The 69 year old pilot was flown to Tamworth Hospital with broken ribs and cuts to his head while the 32 year old passenger suffered minor leg injury and was shifted to Narrabri Hospital. Authorities confirmed that both of the injured are in stable condition.

    Police have launched an investigation into the incident.

    Hendrick Doubletake: Motorsports Crash Landing

    What: Hendrick Gulfstream G150 en route to Key West
    Where: Key West
    When: Nov 1, 2011 7:58
    Who: Rick and Laura Hendric, pilot and copilot
    Why: On landing in Key West, the plane had no brakes and skidded off the safety area. Those on board had minor injuries and were taken to Lower Keys Medical Center. Rick Hendrick suffered a broken rib and shoulder.

    The NTSB is investigating.

    United Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing at SFO

    United Airlines flight UA-779 had to return and make an emergency landing in San Francisco, California, on December 18th.

    The Boeing 757-200 plane took off for Newark, New Jersey, but had to turn back due to indication of smoke in a lavatory.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All one hundred and seventy-six people aboard remained safe.
