    XL Airways France Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Fort-de-France

    XL Airways France flight SE-1670 made an emergency landing in Fort-de-France, Martinique, on September 15th.

    The Airbus A330-200 plane flying from Pointe-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe, was on final approach to Fort-de-France when the crew went around due to an unsafe gear indication.

    The plane subsequently landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Engine Failure Prompts Cessna to Land near Key West International Airport

    A single-engine Cessna made an emergency landing near Key West International Airport in Monroe County, Florida, at around 10:20 a.m. on January 3.

    Authorities said that the plane, en-route from Naples to Key West airport, ended up in around 3 feet of water in salt ponds after the pilot reported engine failure.

    There were 6 people on board at the time of incident; all of them remained unharmed.

    Why: The helicopter that was ditched in the North Sea has been retrieved and taken to Peterhead, Aberdeenshire.

    The UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) is investigating the incident in which seventeen passengers and two crew were on the way to the drilling rig when the crew had to ditch the helicopter (controlled ditching) in the North sea.

    This Special Bulletin contains information about the helicopter’s main gearbox (MGB) lubrication system and the results of an investigation into the indication of a failure of the emergency lubrication system, after it was activated by the crew. It follows publication of two earlier Special Bulletins on this accident, AAIB Special Bulletins S2/2012 and S3/2012.

    This was the first occasion that the EC225 LP MGB emergency lubrication system had been operated in-service. One Safety Recommendation is made.

    The investigation into the failure of the bevel gear vertical shaft in the MGB continues.

    Lufthansa Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Cologne

    Lufthansa flight GEC-8332 had to make an emergency landing in Cologne, Germany, on December 17th.

    The plane heading from Frankfurt, Germany, to John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, was diverted after the crew noticed an engine issue.

    The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Bird-Hit Avianca Airlines Plane Returns to Bogota

    AviancaAvianca Airlines flight AV-241 had to return and make an emergency landing in Bogota, Colombia, on September 24th.

    The Airbus A319-100 plane took off for Santiago, Chile, but had to return shortly afterwards after one of the engines ingested several birds.

    The plane landed safely. All 118 people aboard remained unhurt.
