    China Eastern Plane makes Safe Landing in Wenzhou after Visual Difficulties

    china easternChina Eastern flight MU-5577 made a safe emergency landing at Wenzhou Longwan International Airport, Wenzhou, Zhejiang, China, on March 20th.

    The Airbus A320-200, flying from Shanghai to Wenzhou, China, was about to land when the crew faced some visual difficulties disabling them to see the runway.

    The plane received substantial damage to its landing gear and flaps after impacting treetops outside the airport perimeter.

    All people onboard remained unharmed.

    The incident remains under investigation.

    Private Chopper Crashes Carrying Australian Concrete Entrepreneur

    What: DAVCRON PTY LTD Bell 206
    Where: South Turramurra, Sydney Australia
    When: July 22, 2011
    Who: 2 fatalities
    Why: While on a routine flight from Rosehill to the owner’s hanger in Wyee, the bell chopper crashed north of Sydney while flying in a heavy downpour. The wreckage was spread in a hundred meter area at the foot of a cliff in Lane Cove National Park. The pilot and passenger were confirmed dead. Emergency services could only reach by rappelling down. Recovery has been postponed till the weekend because of continued bad weather.

    Witnesses say they may have seen something fly off the back of the helicopter and one witness said the helicopter was upside down when it fell. Descriptions of the troubled helicopter included “clattering” and “explosion.”

    Initially the victims of the crash were not known, but their names have been released. The bodies of pilot Colin Greenwood, 35 and 85 year old Businessman Bruce Campbell were found in the wreckage.

    Officials say the pilot had filed a flight plan although it was not required.

    Campbell founded Davcron Engineering Pty Ltd and owned the chopper which regularly on Fridays flew him to his semi-rural home. Campbell has three sons and is a grandfather of five.

    Where: Parintins

    Why: After several attempts at landing in stormy, rainy windy conditions at the Manaus airport (including flying through tree branches and damaging the leading edge of the right wing, the flight diverted 200 miles east to Parintins where it made a safe landing.

    Flybe Plane Makes Emergency Landing at Belfast City Airport

    flybeFlybe flight BE-986 made an emergency landing at Belfast City Airport in Northern Ireland, United Kingdom, on August 19th.

    The plane was flying from Southampton, England, when the crew declared an emergency due to a minor technical fault.

    The plane landed safely. All 70 people aboard remained unharmed.

    Small Plane Makes Safe Emergency Landing on a Duplin County Road

    PiperA Piper aircraft made an emergency landing on River Road, near Interstate 40, in Duplin County, North Carolina, on the afternoon of December 11.

    The plane, en-route from Maryland to Wilmington, was forced to land in emergency after it lost oil pressure. Authorities said the pilot was trying to land at Wallace Airport but could not make it to there and landed on a road.

    The pilot, who was the only one aboard, remained uninjured. He managed to push the aircraft off the road immediately after landing.

    The plane’s right wing sustained minor damage.

    What: Trans States Airlines Embraer ERJ-145 en route from Chicago O’Hare,IL to Rochester,NY
    Where: Rochester
    When: Feb 22nd 2012
    Who: 42 passengers and 3 crew
    Why: The flight made a fast landing on the wet runway in less than ideal conditions, overrunning the edge of the runway.

    There were no injuries. Passengers disembarked and were driven to the gate; the plane had to be towed, which closed the runway. The plane had minor damage.
