    2 Killed as Small Plane Crashes Near Idaho-Wyoming Border

    A small plane crashed in eastern Idaho near the Wyoming border, on January 4th.

    Authorities said the vintage Yak 52 Russian trainer aircraft went down about 2 miles north of the Alpine Airport, Wyoming.

    There were two people aboard, including Reade Genzlinger, 61, of Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania, and MacKenzie Ruston, 17, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Both of them were killed in the crash.

    The FAA is investigating.

    What: American Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-82 en route from Tampa to the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport
    Where: emergency landing in Tallahassee Florida
    When: Saturday Apr 25th 2009
    Who: 147 people
    Why: After discovering that the plane was experiencing mechanical problems involving the fuel tanks, it took twenty minutes to land. Passengers boarded a MD-83 and reached Dallas nine and a half hours later. The MD-82 with fuel system issues is under examination.

    Where: Washington DC
    When: Mar 22nd 2011
    Who: 68 people aboard
    Why: The United crew was informed that the airport was “uncontrolled” via the advisory frequency. The plane made a visual approach and landed ten minutes after the American Airlines flight

    American Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Dulles International Airport

    American Airlines flight AA-5494 made an emergency landing at Dulles International Airport, Virginia, on January 14th.

    The plane heading from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Virginia, to Saint Louis, Missouri, was diverted due to a gear disagree message.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Medical Evac Flight Crew Lost In Iowa Chopper Crash


    What: Medical Bell 407 en route from Mason City to Emmetsburg Iowa

    Who: 3 Fatalities
    Why: A Mercy Air Med medical helicopter crash was en route to pick up a patient when it crashed on Wednesday at 9 p.m killing Pilot Gene Grell, paramedic Russell Piehl, and Nurse Shelly Lair-Langenbau. The pilot had 2,800 hours flight time.

    The weather at the time was a light freezing drizzle, fog and mist at 8 p.m. at the Mason City airport, 27 degrees, and overcast conditions at 9 p.m.

    The patient was taken by ambulance to Mercy-North Iowa Hospital.

    The helicopter service of Mercy Medical Center-North that employed the pilot is Med-Trans. The nurse and paramedic worked for the hospital.

    The crash occurred fifteen miles from where it took off. The helicopter did not have a black box but it did have a tracking satellite system. The Bell 407 was new in April 2011 and had night-vision goggles, a terrain warning system and a satellite tracking system.

    The NTSB and FAA are investigating. Weather is being investigated as a possible cause. There was no SOS or emergency communication from the helicopter. The wreckage will probably be relocated on Jan 4 2013. Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department is keeping the site secure.

    Piedmont Airlines Flight Returns to Long Island MacArthur Airport

    Piedmont Airlines flight PDT-4868 had to return and make an emergency landing at Long Island MacArthur Airport in Islip, New York, on May 16th.

    The plane took off for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but had to return shortly afterwards after a light bulb in the cockpit started emitting smoke.

    The plane landed back safely. All 40 passengers and 3 crew members remained unharmed.
