Why: After discovering that the plane was experiencing mechanical problems involving the fuel tanks, it took twenty minutes to land. Passengers boarded a MD-83 and reached Dallas nine and a half hours later. The MD-82 with fuel system issues is under examination.

Microburst Diverts AA MD-80 to San Jose

Why: While en route, the plane developed a throttle problem (left throttle stuck.) On approach to San Francisco, the plane encountered a microburst ( a short, intense gust of wind). Between the throttle problem and the microburst, the crew declared an emergency.
The flight diverted to San Jose where it landed safely. Passengers were bussed to SF.
Air India Emergency Landing in Bhopal
What: Air India Airbus A319-100 en route from Bhopal to Indore
Where: Bhopal
When: Oct 19th 2011
Who: 70 passengers
Why: The Air India flight took off normally but once in the air developed a hydraulic failure.
The flight returned to the airport and made a safe landing after being in the air for a quarter of an hour.
Passengers were booked on alternative flights.
Blue Islands Flight Makes Emergency Landing at London Southend Airport
A Blue Islands flight made an emergency landing at London Southend Airport, England, shortly before 9 a.m. on January 2.
The plane was forced to land in emergency after the crew received a fire alert from one of the engines. The flight, carrying 28 passengers and 3 crew members was heading from Jersey to London City at the time.
The plane landed uneventfully and no one was injured.
The airline said, “At approximately 08:28 local this morning, the Blue Islands flight SI712 Jersey to London City Airport, with 28 passengers and three crew on-board, experienced a safety warning…As a precautionary measure, the engine was shut down, and this flight followed standard procedures and diverted to London Southend Airport. The aircraft landed safely at London Southend at 08:48…The aircraft is currently being inspected by engineers at Southend. Initial indications are that no fire took place and it appears to be a false alert.”
USAirways Emergency Landing in Buffalo
What: US Airways Flight 3786 CRJ-200 en route from Philadelphia to Buffalo
Where: Buffalo-Niagara International Airport
When: Dec 13, 2012 9:50 pm
Who: 53 passengers
Why: The commuter plane made an emergency landing at Buffalo Niagara International Airport after reporting brake problems.
THe CRJ-200 circled the airport for half an hour burning off fuel before making an emergency landing.
Passengers disembarked at the terminal. No injuries were reported.
