    Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing in North Topeka, Kansas

    A small plane made an emergency landing in a cornfield in North Topeka, Kansas, on July 1st.

    The single engine plane was heading from Kansas City, Missouri, to Denver, Colorado, when it lost oil pressure, prompting the pilot to land in emergency.

    There were two people aboard at the time; none of them were injured.

    Delta Airlines Flight Makes Unscheduled Landing at JFK Airport

     

    250px-Delta_logo.svgDelta Airlines flight DL-96 had to divert and make unscheduled landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, on May 25th.

    The plane, heading from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Charles de Gaulle Airport, France, was diverted after the crew reported a fuel contamination issue.

    The plane landed uneventfully. No injuries were reported.

    What: Emirates en route from Kuala Lumpur to Dubai
    Where: Chennai
    When: April 10, 2011
    Who: 465 passengers
    Why: While en route, the plane had a technical failure resulting in smoke in the cockpit. The crew diverted to Chennai where they made a safe landing. Passengers were provided alternative transportation to Dubai. However, the passengers overnighted in Chennai as the problem could not be solved within the crews “max duty time.”

    What: Emirates Airlines Airbus A340-500 en route from Cape Town to Dubai
    Where: Capetown
    When: Jan 4 2012 1.55pm
    Who: 243 passengers
    Why: After takeoff, the gear did not retract and (as was observed) the gear doors remained open. We presume the pilots did a fly-by that was the source of the visual conformation of the issue at hand.

    An hour and a half after takeoff, with emergency crews on standby, the pilots landed back in Capetown (3.20pm), and was towed.

    Passengers were provided hotel accommodations. The replacement flight was scheduled for Jan 5, 2012.

    JetBlue Flight Diverted to Norfolk due to Unknown Odor in the Cabin

    JetBlueJetBlue flight 1534 had to divert and make and emergency landing at Norfolk International Airport, Virginia, at around 4:30 p.m. on January 12.

    The Embraer aircraft, en-route from Tampa, Florida to Hartford, Connecticut, was diverted after the crew reported a strange odor in the cabin.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All 93 people aboard remained safe.

    Another aircraft was arranged which later took the passengers to Hartford.

    TUI fly Belgium Flight Diverts to Brussels After Bird Strike

    TUI fly Belgium flight TB-5697 made an emergency landing in Brussels, Belgium, on September 14th.

    The Boeing 737-800 Max plane heading from Ostend, Belgium, to Palma de Mallorca Airport, Spain, was diverted due to a bird strike.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
