    Air New Zealand Makes Emergency Landing

    What: Air New Zealand Boeing 767 en route from Honolulu to Auckland
    Where: Auckland

    Who: 230 passengers
    Why: When the landing gear light (which should indicate landing gear are in place) did not come on during approach, the pilot told Auckland ATC, and performed a flyby confirming the gear were down. The pilot went on to make a safe landing.

    Korean Air Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Manila

    Korean Air flight KE-644 had to divert for an emergency landing in Manila, Philippines, on February 28th.

    The Boeing 777-300 plane heading from Singapore to Seoul, South Korea, was diverted after smell of smoke was noticed in the cabin.

    The plane landed safely. All 285 passengers aboard remained unharmed.

    Saab Lands with Stuck Landing Gear

    What: Carpatair Saab 2000 en route from the Moldovan capital, Chisinau, to Timisoara in Rumania
    Where: emergency landing at Timisoara International Airport in Western Romania
    When: Feb 28, 2009
    Who: 51 people-47 passengers, 4 crew.
    Why: Six miles from the airport, the crew discovered that the plane’s landing gear was stuck. After the flight circled for two hours burning fuel, the plane landed safely on the main landing gear on a 200-yard long bed of foam. No injuries were reported.

    Carpatair vice-president Dan Andrei is reported to have said, “When it landed, the plane came down on the side wheels; it braked sharply and at a low speed it came on its front belly, while the front landing gear remained stuck.”

    American Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Philadelphia

    American Airlines flight AA-2665 had to return and make an emergency landing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on November 13th.

    The Boeing 767-300 plane took off for Miami, Florida, but had to turn back after the crew noticed a loud thud followed by air rushing noise.

    The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    American Airlines Plane Diverts to New York after Pilot’s Death Mid-Air

    American EagleAmerican Airlines Flight 550 diverted and made an emergency landing at Syracuse Hancock International Airport, New York, at around 7:13 A.M. on October 17.

    The Airbus A320, en-route to Boston, Massachusetts, from Phoenix, Arizona, had to be diverted due to a medical emergency involving death of the pilot, Mr. Johnston, mid-air.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    All 147 passengers aboard remained unhurt.

    Air India Airbus has Hydraulic Complications

    What: Air India Airbus A-320 en route from Delhi to at Raipur
    Where: Raipur airport
    When: August 31, 2009
    Who: 91 passengers
    Why: The flight had landed safely at Raipur, and had not yet begun the takeoff leading to the next leg of the journey, when the pilot discovered a leak in the Airbus A-320’s hydraulic system.

    One report says that the leak was discovered on the ground before takeoff and that takeoff was delayed.

    A second report says that the plane made an emergency landing after taking off for the next leg of the journey.
    An emergency was declared, and passengers debarked safely.
