    Ikar Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Haikou Airport, China

    IkarIkar airlines flight IK-2474 had to make an emergency landing at Haikou airport, China on June 18.

    The incident happened when the Boeing-767-300 was en route from Thailand to Yekaterinburg, located in the Russian Urals.

    According to authorities, the decision to make an emergency landing was due to a power generator malfunction. The plane landed safely, with a delay of 3 hours from its scheduled landing time of 1:40 a.m. No one was hurt.

    Gennady Chuprov, the airline’s Deputy Director General for flight safety, said that 231 passengers were accommodated at a Wuhan city hotel.

    United Airlines Emergency Landing in Indianapolis

    What: United Airlines Boeing 757-200 en route from Baltimore MD to Chicago O’Hare,IL
    Where: Runway 23 Right at Indianapolis International Airport
    When: May 15, 7:15 am
    Who: 140 people aboard.
    Why: While en route to Chicago, the 757 cockpit filled with smoke and requested an emergency landing at Indianapolis.

    As you can see in the silent digital recording above, the plane lands safely, although we do not see the passengers debarking.

    Sydney: Jetstar Airbus Lands on One Engine

    What: Jetstar Airbus A320-200 en route from Christchurch to Sydney
    Where: Sydney
    When: Oct 19th 2010
    Who: 118 passengers
    Why: While en route, passengers reported hearing a bang and seeing black smoke coming from an engine.

    The pilot shut down that engine, and made a safe landing in Sydney. Maintenance confirmed that the engine seized.

    EasyJet Flight Returns to Copenhagen due to Bird Strike

    EasyJet flight U2-1986 had to return and make an emergency landing in Copenhagen, Denmark, on June 13th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Manchester, England, but had to turn back after the crew needed to shut down one of the engines due to a bird strike.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Munich Emergency Landing by Lufthansa/Air Dolomiti

    What: Lufthansa/Air Dolomiti Avion de Transport Regional ATR-72-500 en route from Munich to Venice
    Where: Munich
    When: May 17th 2012, 13:35
    Who: 58 passengers and 4 crew
    Why: While en route ten minutes into the flight, the plane developed smoke in the cockpit and cabin. The crew returned to Munich. On approach to Munich, the crew had to shut down the right engine.

    On landing, the plane veered off the runway on to the grass, ran into some obstructions and stopped with a collapsed nose gear. During rescue, twenty flights were diverted. The plane is presently sinking into soft round.

    The passengers were evacuated. Other than one person with back injuries, no injuries were reported.

    Why: A US plane airlifting flood refugees from the northern city of Skardu was struck by an unidentified technical problem, and made an emergency landing. There were no injuries
