    Loganair Flight Diverts to Aberdeen due to ‘Unusual Smell’

    LoganairLoganair flight BE6891 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Aberdeen International Airport in Scotland, at around 10:45 a.m. on February 20.

    According to a statement released by the airline, “The captain of Flight BE6891, which departed Edinburgh International Airport at 09:25 this morning for Kirkwall with 20 passengers, one infant and three crew on board, elected to divert to Aberdeen as a precautionary measure after detecting an unusual smell in the cockpit.”

    The plane landed uneventfully and none of the passengers and crew members was hurt.

    The airline arranged an alternate aircraft which took the passengers to their destination.

    Southwest Airlines Flight Returns to Dallas Love Field After Bird Strike

    Southwest Airlines flight WN-116 had to return and make an emergency landing at Dallas Love Field, Texas, on June 16th.

    The Boeing 737-700 plane took off for Albuquerque, New Mexico, but had to return shortly afterwards due to a bird strike.

    The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Who: Belligerent Passenger, 52 aboard
    Why: While en route, economy class passenger Javed Ansari had words with a flight attendant. Those words included threats that sounded like hijack attempts to someone. The passenger told authorities that he “hurled a threat after a quarrel with attendants Sadaf Mansoor and Mehreen Fatima, but had no intention to hijack the aircraft.” Ansari was offloaded in Karachi and escorted away by Airport Security Force commandos and handed off to police. The flight was delayed almost three hours.

    Xinhua news reported that Urdu TV channel ARY News said Ansari followed the attendants into the cockpit and asked the captain to divert the flight. This was reported as a foiled hijack attempt, where the pilot tricked the hijacker by claiming the plane had to return to Karachi for an emergency landing. Ansari says he was “joking.”

    Flybe Plane Crash-Lands at Belfast International Airport; 1 Injured

    Flybe flight BE-331 crash-landed at Belfast International Airport, Northern Ireland, on November 10th.

    The plane was heading from George Best Belfast City Airport, Northern Ireland, to Inverness, Scotland, when the crew diverted to Belfast International Airport due to a gear problem.

    The plane landed without nose gear.

    One passenger was injured and was taken to a hospital.

    CityJet Flight Returns to Dublin due to Low Oil Pressure Indication

    CityJetCityJet flight WX-112 had to return and make an emergency landing in Dublin, Ireland, on May 20th.

    The plane took off for London, England, but had to return shortly afterwards after the crew needed to shut down one of the engines due to a low oil pressure indication.

    The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

    Gulf Air Plane Makes Emergency Landing at London Heathrow Airport

    Gulf airGulf Air flight GF003 made an emergency landing at London Heathrow Airport, United Kingdom, on December 13.

    Authorities said the pilots of the Airbus 330, flying from Bahrain, declared an emergency after the aircraft developed some technical issues that led to a drop in cabin pressure.

    The plane landed safely. All 89 passengers aboard remained unhurt.

    The airline said in a statement, “The safety, protection and comfort of our passengers and employees are of utmost importance and Gulf Air crew are trained to handle such incidents, as evidenced by the level of professionalism shown by both the pilots and cabin crew as well as all of our teams on the ground.”
