    American Airlines Flight Returns to JFK Airport due to Electrical Problem

    American Airlines flight AA-64 had to return and make an emergency landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, on October 5th.

    The Boeing 767-300 plane took off for Zurich, Switzerland, but had to turn back after the crew noticed an electrical problem.

    The plane landed back uneventfully. All passengers and crew members remained safe.

    Family Tragically Lost in Kansas Cornfield

    What: Precision Ag & Seed Services Beechcraft
    Where: Topeka, Kansas
    When: 22-APR-2011
    Who: 4 fatalities
    Why: A family of four missed the approach to Philip Billard Municipal Airport. Witnesses to the crash say they heard the engine sputter.

    The plane was flying too low as it made a go-around to make a second landing pass. The plane was a Beechcraft built in Kansas.

    The young Scott city couple and their daughters were making an Easter trip when they crashed. The victims names were released: Richard Dylan Spencer, 35; Amy Beth Spencer, 34; and their daughters, Chase Spencer, 7, and Ansley Spencer, 5.

    All of these aviation crashes that involve deaths are terrible; but somehow it hits home sharper when it is a young couple with their two small children.

    Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Tulsa

    A Cessna 172SP plane made an emergency landing in a field along 41st Street and Lynn Lane in east Tulsa, Oklahoma, on January 11.

    The pilot decided to make an emergency landing after the plane, that took off from Jones Riverside Airport, developed an engine problem. According to Terry Maurer with the Tulsa Police Department, the pilot first thought of landing at Harvey Young Airport but it is surrounded by a residential area and “he didn’t want to try and land a disabled plane around a residential area.”

    The plane landed safely. The pilot Zach Prewitt, who is a flight instructor at the Christiansen Flight School, Jones Airport, remained uninjured.

    The FAA is investigating.

    Boeing Skids off Rainy Guinea Tarmac

    What: Mauritania Airways Boeing 737-700 en route from Nouakchott to Dakar Senegal to Conakry
    Where: Conakry
    When: Jul 28th 2010, 1:30 am
    Who: 91 passengers and 6 crew, ten injuries.
    Why: While landing in Conakry Guinea in heavy rain, the pilot landed halfway down the runway, resulting in an overran; they came to a dead stop off the tarmac in scrub land.

    Passengers evacuated via emergency services. Reports vary, but between 2 and 12 had minor injuries.

    Mauritania Airways is 51% owned by Tunisair; 49% by investors and the Mauritanian government.

    Martha’s Vineyard Fatality

    What: six passenger, twin-engine Cape Air Cessna 402 Flight 105 en route to Boston’s Logan International Airport took off from Runway 33 on its way to pick up passengers at Logan.
    Where: Crashed on land about 2 miles from Nip-N-Tuck Farm Martha’s Vineyard West Tisbury
    When: 8:05 p.m
    Who: Pilot David D. Willey (fatality)
    Why: During takeoff, there was heavy rain and high wind. The crash is under investigation

    Cape Air runs a fleet of more than 50 Cessna 402s and carried more than 650,000 passengers last year
