    Croatian Canadair Emergency Landing

    On October 2nd, 2013, an Adria Airways Canadair Regional Jet CRJ-900 en route from Zagreb to Sofia developed a mechanical problem with the GNK Dinamo Zagreb team aboard.

    In flight, pilots found error alerts indicating heating of the outer edge of a wing. Pilots diverted to Ljubljana where they made a safe landing. No one was injured.

    In Croatian news services, the focus of this news was mostly on the inconvenienced football team

    Ethiopian MD-11 Lands on Flat

    What: Ethiopian Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-11 en route from Cairo Egypt to Liege Belgium
    Where: Liege
    When: Oct 9th 2009
    Who: 2 crew members
    Why: On approach, tire pressure sensors indicated a flat tire/tire failure. However, the flight landed safely without further problem.

    Southwest Airlines Plane Diverts to Georgia due to Dripping Ceiling, Smoke and Smell

    Southwest Airlines flight WN-1694 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Atlanta, Georgia, on May 12th.

    The Boeing 737-300 flying from Tampa, Florida, to Nashville, Tennessee, had to divert due to water dripping off its ceiling, smoke, and unusual smell aboard.

    The plane landed safely.

    All 129 passengers aboard remained safe.

    Piper Crash Lebanon-Springfield

    What: KMT Consultants Piper PA-28-180 Cherokee C en route from St Clair County Airport to Lebanon- Springfield Airport
    Where: west of Lebanon-Springfield Airport
    When: Feb 23 2010
    Who: Pilot Kent Douglas Shilling of Springfield (lost in crash)
    Why: The Piper 28 airplane disappeared from radar about 4 miles west Lebanon Springfield Airport. Kent Douglas Shilling was piloting the plane. Shilling, who owns a flight school, was returning to Kentucky from Alabama. When his arrival in Lebanon-Springfield was overdue, a search ensued. The Emergency Operations Center received a call concerning the crash at 4:10 p.m.

    A state trooper found the wreckage in a wooded area off of Kentucky Highway 55 thirty minutes after the flight disappeared from radar.

    American Airlines Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Iowa

    american airlinesAmerican Airlines flight AA-2023 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Des Moines International Airport, Polk County, Iowa, on March 18.

    The Airbus A321-200, flying from Chicago, Illinois to Phoenix, Arizona, was mid-air above Iowa when the crew detected smoke in the cockpit, causing it to divert.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    All 196 people onboard remained unhurt.

    The incident is under investigation.

    Pilots lost off the Coast of Mariveles

    What: Philippine Air Force SIAI Marchetti SF.260TP Warrior
    Where: Mariveles, Bataan, Philippines
    When: May 18, 2012
    Who: 2 aboard
    Why: The Philippine Air Force trainer that took off from Danilo Atienza Air Base in Sangley Point at around 6:55 a.m and failed to return was reported to have crashed in waters off Mariveles, Bataan. No distress call was made.

    Witnesses say the plane tilted sideways and nosedived into the sea, with no smoke or explosion. Some of the wreckage— fuel tank, a pilot helmet and one of the seats of the plane—was recovered at 7:30 a.m in 180 foot deep water. Coast guard divers have been searching. The missing pilots, Major Neil Tumaneng, a graduate of Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class 1995, and his co-pilot, Lt. Michael Arugay, of PMA Class 1999, are still missing.

    The Philippines Coast Guard, the Philippine National Police, and Philippine Army found some wreckange; however a fishermen found partial remains in deep waters.

    The crash occurred near Fortune Isle, a tiny rocky island near Mariveles.
