    LOT Polish Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Gear Problem

    LOT Polish Airlines flight LO-781 made an emergency landing in Warsaw, Poland, on June 20th.

    The plane took off for Riga, Latvia, but had to turn back after the crew received indication of a gear problem.

    The plane landed back safely. All sixty-two people aboard remained safe.

    American Airlines Flight Diverts to Shannon with Smokey Cabin

    What: American Airlines Boeing 767-300 en route from Paris to Dallas Ft. Worth
    Where: Shannon
    When: Mar 22nd 2012
    Why: While en route and over the Atlantic, the plane developed smoke in the cabin. Apparently there was also a mechanical glitch as well that helped the pilots determine they needed to divert.

    Pilots flew the 200 miles back to Shannon where they made a safe but overweight landing less than an hour later. Emergency vehicles were on standby.

    The source of the smoke was an oven in the galley.

    A replacement jet was provided as N392AN is inspected.

    Bird-Hit IndiGo Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Ahmedabad

    IndiGo Airlines IndiGo flight 6E-158 had to make an emergency landing at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, on August 20.

    The plane departed for Delhi at 6:15 a.m. but had to declare an emergency at 6:30 a.m. due to a bird strike.

    The plane safely landed. There were 143 passengers and 6 crew members aboard at the time; all of them remained unharmed.

    According to an airline spokesperson, “An inspection carried out by the on-ground engineering team revealed an engine fan blade was damaged beyond allowable limits. The aircraft was immediately withdrawn from service for maintenance at Ahmedabad airport. The aircraft became serviceable for operations at 1.30pm.”

    PHI Medical Evacuation Emergency Landing


    What: PHI Bell 407 medical helicopter
    Where: emergency landing about 11 miles south of Lafayette–a parking lot at U.S. 231 and Indiana 28 in Romney
    When: Monday afternoon
    Who: A pilot, nurse, paramedic and patient
    Why: The PHI Bell 407 medical helicopter a patient when it was forced to land due to a mechanical problem Monday afternoon. An ambulance carried the patient to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Lafayette.

    Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Dane County Field

    A Cessna 172 plane made an emergency landing in a field in Madison, Dane County, Wisconsin, on October 3.

    Air traffic controllers said the pilot reported engine issues before it lost communication and made an emergency landing. The plane was flying from Montevideo, Minnesota at the time.

    The 30-year-old pilot, and his only passenger, remained unhurt.

    The aircraft was able to take off again and safely landed at Middleton Municipal Airport.

    Cessna Makes Crash Landing on Texas Highway

    CessnaA single-engine Cessna plane made a crash landing on a ramp on northbound U.S. 287, north of Interstate 20, in Arlington, Texas, on the afternoon of June 27.

    The plane landed on the highway ramp’s barrier wall and then crashed into a black pickup truck. The incident happened shortly before 5 p.m. after the aircraft lost oil pressure.

    According to Jim Self, an Arlington assistant fire chief, the aircraft was towing an advertisement banner at the time of the accident. Self also confirmed that the pilot remained unhurt.

    However, a statement from Arlington police stated that the plane’s wing crashed into the windshield of the truck and one person in the truck sustained minor injuries.

    The FAA and NTSB are investigating the accident.
