On June 16th, 1936, a Norwegian Air Lines flight en route from Bergen to Tromsø crashed into Lihesten mountain in Hyllestad, Norway. The pilots did not realize they were flying 15 to 20 kilometers east of their intended route. The crew of four and three passengers were all killed in the first fatal aviation accident in Norway. The first expedition found four bodies. The second expedition recovered the remaining bodies. The plane was a Junkers Ju 52, registration LN-DAE purchased from Deutsche Lufthansa. The captain was Ditlev Pentz Smith. First Officer was Erik Storm. Peter Ruth Paasche was reserve pilot. Radio operator was Per Erling Hegle. Thepassengers were Inspector Sven Svensen Løgit, Consul Wilhelm Andreas Mejdell Dall and journalist Harald Wigum of Bergens Tidende.

Libyan Fighter Jet Crashed in Tobruk; 3 Killed, 9 Injured
A MiG-21 Fighter Jet belonging to Libya’s air force turned upside down and crashed in the Libyan city of Tobruk on September 2.The plane went out of control and crashed, in a residential area, during a military event which was held to honour the pilot of another plane that crashed last week in Bayda city.
Three people, including the pilot, died in the crash while 9 others were injured.
According to security officials, the plane crashed due to hydraulic system failure.
Mozambique Plane Crash Final Report
On Jan 9th 2014 Namibia’s Accident Investigation Commission released the preliminary report of the LAM E190 crash over Botswana/Namibia on Nov 29th 2013. The conclusion at that time was that the captain intentionally crashed the aircraft. On November 29, 2013, there were 28 passengers and 6 crew aboard the Embraer ERJ-190 flown by LAM Linhas Aereas de Mocambique, and it was enroute at FL380 over northern Botswana when the flight descended and radio contact was lost. The burned out wreckage was located by villagers in Bwabwata National Park (Sambesi Region) on Nov 30. A news article on April 15 2016 indicated that the final report was released, although we have not verified it.The captain in charge of the aircraft, Herminio dos Santos Fernandes, was alone in the cockpit at the time of the crash. The copilot had left for the lavatory.
The unverified article says that the final report was compiled by Theo Shilongo, deputy director of the directorate of aircraft accident investigations, who was the investigator in charge, and Hafeni Mweshixwa as the co-investigator. It was signed off by works and transport minister Alpheus Naruseb. When it is available to the public, it should be available at the Directorate of Aircraft Accident Investigations Namibia (DAAI).
An interim report of the accident is below. The interim report indicates “The DAAI will provide updates on the investigation and safety recommendations as they become available until completion of the final report” in accordance with the provisions of ICAO Annex 13.

Turbulence: Rough Ride on United Airlines
United Boeing 737-700 #N23708 en route from Denver to Billings had 114 passengers and 5 crew when it encountered turbulence. The tower reported winds at “200 at 2-8 gust 3-6.”Fifteen minutes outside of landing, three crew and two passengers sustained injury. According to interviews, one flight attendant struck the ceiling, and also a passenger. An infant flew out of its parents arms and landed on a seat when it felt like the plane dropped. Passengers complained of inadequate feedback from the airline.
Pilots declared an emergency; and after they landed safely with emergency services on standby, they taxied to the gate. The flight attendant who struck the ceiling knocked out a ceiling panel and suffered a bleeding wound for which “medical attention at the gate” was requested. One flight attendant is in intensive care.
One passenger in the video below says it felt like the plane was “hit from the bottom.” At that point, loose items in the cabin were disturbed.
