A helicopter crashed into Lake Nakuru in Kenya, on October 21st.
The helicopter, carrying five people, was en-route to an election campaign rally when it went down.
According to a statement issued by Kenya Civil Aviation Authority, “Initial indications are that there are no survivors.”
Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika said three people aboard the helicopter were members of her communications team.
The search and rescue operation is underway.
A small plane crashed in a yard at the 4500 block of the South Shades Crest road, in Helena, Alabama, at around 2 p.m. on August 1.
All 4 people aboard the plane survived with minor injuries. They have been identified as the pilot, Dan Smith, and the passengers Andy Smith, Sharon Smith and a 17-year-old female whose name has not been disclosed. All of them hail from Tennessee. They were taken to local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Jefferson and Shelby County sheriff’s deputies and Helena police and firefighters arrived on the scene immediately after the crash. Helena police Detective Sgt. Chris Rollan said the pilot and passengers were saved by the neighbors who pulled them from the plane before it caught fire.
Kathleen Bergen, a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration, said the plane was a Piper PA-32 aircraft that left Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport in Panama City, Florida, for Dickson Municipal Airport in Tennessee. The single-engine plane was built in 1978 and registered to Cougar Aviation LLC in Dickson, Tennessee.
The FAA and NTSB were called to determine the cause of crash.

A helicopter crashed into a mobile home in Sebring, Florida, on October 31st.
The helicopter was carrying two people when it went down in Sebring Falls Mobile Home Park.
Both occupants of the aircraft were killed in the crash. They were identified as the pilot Christopher Lord, 45, and his passenger Christopher Brugger, 52.
One person on the ground was injured and was taken to a hospital.
Yemenia Flight 626 from Paris to Moroni sank into the ocean on June 30, killing 152 people, with one survivor. The black boxes were found Friday.
Just because the black boxes were found does not mean the route to discovery is on track. Apparently there was so much damage to the black boxes, there is going to be trouble recovering the data. That’s not new. In fact, usually when there is trouble reading the black boxes, investigators call in the company that made the boxes, and they are usually able to mine the data in spite of damage.
The BEA, the French aviation authority is handling the investigation. Many of those aboard were French and/or French Comoran.
Did they–are they–sending the boxes to the US? They’d have a better chance of recovery if they do.
A Fokker 50 turboprop plane, operated by Skyward International Aviation, crash landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, Kenya, early morning on January 4.
The authorities said the plane, en-route from Wajir to Nairobi, landed on its belly due to landing gear failure. None of the 6 people aboard was injured.
The flight operations were temporarily halted at the airport and all incoming flights were diverted to Mombasa airport. The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) later released a statement saying, “Kenya Civil Aviation Authority has concluded the inspection of the runway at JKIA. JKIA Runway 6 has been cleared by Kenya Civil Aviation Authority and is now open. Arrival and Departure flight operations have resumed.”
According to the local media reports, the aircraft was struck by birds upon take off, one of which got stuck in the landing gear mechanism.

“Ground resonance” occurs when a sitting helicopter’s rotors become unbalanced while spinning. A resident expert says this can happen because of a hard landing; the best way to get it to stop is to pull collective and break contact with the ground. (At the time, that would feel counter intuitive, I would think!)
