    Nepal Airlines Flight Returns to Kathmandu after Bird Strike

    nepal airlinesNepal Airlines flight RA-409 had to return and make a precautionary landing at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, Nepal, on July 7th.

    The Airbus A320-200 was en-route to Hong Kong, China, when one of its engines ingested a bird, prompting the plane to return.

    The plane landed safely. All 59 people onboard remained unharmed.

    The passengers were accommodated in a replacement plane.

    Ethiopian Airlines Plane Diverts to Ireland due to Engine Shut Down

    Ethiopian airlinesEthiopian Airlines flight ETH-500 had to make an emergency landing at Dublin Airport, Ireland, on the morning of October 23.

    The Boeing 787-800 flying from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to Washington DC, had to divert due to an engine problem. The crew decided to shut down an engine mid-air.

    The plane landed safely after dumping thousands of litres of fuel.

    No injuries were reported.

    Air Cargo Plane Makes Emergency Landing in South Dakota due to Engine Problem

    An Air cargo plane had to divert and make an emergency landing at Mitchell Municipal Airport, Mitchell, South Dakota, on the night of October 11th.

    The Fairchild Metro Three Turbopop en-route from Minot, North Dakota, to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, was mid-air when it encountered an engine problem.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    The pilot, who was the only person aboard, remained unharmed.

    Shaheen Air Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Lahore

    Shaheen Air flight NL-766 had to return and make an emergency landing in Lahore, Pakistan, on August 16th.

    The Airbus A319-100 plane took off for Dubai, United Arab Emirates, but had to return shortly afterwards due to a cabin pressurization issue.

    The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Air Arabia Plane Diverts to Riyadh due to Cargo Smoke Indication

    Saudi Arabian AirlinesAir Arabia flight 185 made an emergency landing at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on March 17th.

    The plane, en-route from Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, to Taif, Saudi Arabia, was diverted due to a cargo smoke indication.

    The plane landed safely. All 168 passengers remained unhurt.

    No evidence of fire was found upon inspection.

    Nepal: Chopper Crashes; Buddha Air Suspends Flights

    What: Mountain Air Helicopter
    Where: Mallarani Hill, Pyuthan
    When: Sept 25, 2011
    Who: Pilot Kumar Chalise, Shyam GC of Gulmi, Jitendra Jhankri and Hirababu Karki of Kathmandu
    Why: The chopper was on a medical evacuation mission when they had to make an emergency landing.

    Mallarani Hill is in Nepal, the country where the Buddha Air crash occurred yesterday,on the same day as this chopper emergency landing. Another source says the helicopter “made a crash landing at Okharpauwa of Nuwakot due to technical problems.”

    Buddha Air, no connection to Mountain Air other than operating in the same country, suspended domestic flights in mourning for the Buddha Air Crash on Sunday. The victims of the crash will be returned to their families on Monday, Sept 26, 2011, following their autopsy at Tribhuvan University. A committee of 5 has been assigned by Nepal’s Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation to report on the crash within 90 days.
